Chapter 37: Revealing The Truth
Aiden’s POV
Claim
The black SUV ate up the miles of highway, the landscape a monotonous grey blur. Nobody dared to speak as we returned to Shadow Pack.
“I’m going to kill you,” Arlo growled lowly, like he could do a thing to me.
“You’ve said that twice already, and you can’t. If I die, you die,” I replied with a heavy sigh.
“You let her go,” He accused with a snarl.
“She had a choice. I couldn’t drag her screaming to our pack,” I reminded him.
He rolled his eyes. “Of course you can! She is our mate!”
“And she needs some time,” I tried to argue, but if I’m being honest, I feel like the only thing holding us together is the bond.
And Irina already stated I should reject her.
Irina…
She must have arrived at Silver Fang by now. I’m sure Derek is doing everything to make her
fall for him.
I gripped the steering wheel until the leather creaked in protest.
“You’re going to break that, you know,” a light voice commented from the passenger seat.
I glanced at Debbie. Her usual bubbly demeanor was subdued, replaced by a look of sharp, knowing pity that I detested.
“Mind your own business,” I growled.
“Oh, but this is my business,” she retorted, unfazed. “She is my Luna, and you just let her go.”
“I didn’t let her go.”
“You did,” She replied. “And now I have to ride back with a moping Alpha who’s going to get us killed because he didn’t have the balls to claim Irina as his before everyone.”
“She speaks the truth. YOU BOTCHED IT!” Arlo roared.
For f***s sake.

I wanted to turn the car around and go to Silver Fang.
“Okay, okay. You still have time, but the sooner you get that out of your chest, the better.”

I hit the brakes, pulling the SUV over onto the gravel shoulder with a crunch that was loud in the sudden silence. Dust swirled around us in the red glow of the taillights.
Debbie jolted, turning to me with wide eyes. “Aiden? What’s wrong?”
“I can’t drive and talk; if he says something I don’t like, I might turn back or get us in an
accident.”
I found Derek Reigrow’s number. My thumb hovered for only a second before I pressed call. The dial tone seemed to echo the frantic beating of my own heart.
It rang twice.
“Alpha Keaton,” Derek’s voice came through, calm and measured. “I wasn’t expecting to hear from you so soon. Is there a problem?”
I took a breath, my pride screaming in protest, but I shoved it down.
“Alpha Reigrow,” I began, the words feeling foreign but right. “There’s something we need to
discuss. About Irina.”
There was a pause on the other end, wary. “I’m listening.”
I closed my eyes. This was it. “She’s my mate. My fated mate.”

The silence from the other end was absolute. I could almost feel his surprise, his reassessment of the entire situation.
“Really? Are you asking me to take Irina to Shadow Pack? She just settled here, but I can ask her to pack her bags.” The way he spoke told me he had already suspected it.
“You knew.”
I wasn’t asking.
“I did,” Derek confirmed, his voice still infuriatingly calm. “It was obvious, but I’m sure Irina isn’t exactly thrilled with the pairing, is she?”
Arlo snarled, but I reminded him to stay calm. Irina was in his pack. I couldn’t get on his bad side now.
“No,” I admitted, the word tasting like gall. “She isn’t. And the fault for that lies entirely with
me.”

There was another pause on the line, longer this time. I could hear the faint sounds of his pack in the background-a distant laugh, the closing of a door. A normal, functioning world where my mate was now residing, learning to br

hatred on her shoulders. A world I wasn’t a part of.
the
“Why are you telling me this, Keaton?” Derek asked, his tone shifting from wary to genuinely curious. “If you’re here to demand her return, my answer is no. She made a choice. I respect her too much to overturn it because her fated mate finally deigned to acknowledge the bond.”
“I’m not demanding,” I forced out, each word a battle against a lifetime of ingrained command. “I am… requesting. Permission to enter your territory. Not to take her, but to speak with her. I want to convince her to accept the bond.”
“Convince?” Derek repeated, a hint of skepticism coloring his voice. “Or to claim?”
“I won’t claim her if she doesn’t want to be claimed. I want to be by her side. You know Blue Moon won’t let what happened with Julie remain in words. They will go after her; I can’t let that happen.
“My pack is strong enough to protect her, Aiden. Besides, she told me everyone in your pack and hers looked at her with disdain. In Silver Fang, she won’t have to experience that
treatment.”
My first instinct was to roar, assert the primal right of the mate bond, and declare that my pack, our pack, was her rightful place. But he was right, because of me, my pack members
looked down at her.
I leaned my head back against the seat, the phone pressed to my ear, the silence stretching as I fought a war within myself. Debbie was watching me, her earlier teasing gone, replaced by a look of sober understanding.
“You’re right,” I said, the admission ripped from a place deep within me I rarely acknowledged. The words were ash in my mouth, but they were true. “Your pack can offer her what mine currently cannot. A fresh start. Respect, without the shadow of her past.”
I took a ragged breath, the next words even harder to force out. “And that is why I am not demanding. I am begging. Not for me, but for the bond itself. She deserves to make this choice after she has cooled down. I will give her all the time she needs, I won’t press, I’m just asking for a visit, that’s all.”
There was another long pause. Then, a soft sigh from Derek. “Very well, Keaton. You have my permission to enter my territory. I’m sure you have to deal with your pack before coming to mine, so let me know when you are coming. And don’t forget your promise, you will give her time, and if she doesn’t accept the bond, you’ll leave quietly.”

“I understand,” I said, my voice hollow but resolute. “And I agree.”
“Is that all, Alpha Keaton?”
“Yes. Thank you, Alpha Riegrow. I won’t forget this favor.”
“Safe travels, Aiden.”
The line went dead.
I wasn’t sure what would happen next.
“Now that you have a chance, you need my help,” Debbie stated with a wicked smile
