Chapter 58: Sleeping Together
Irina’s POV
Should I slap myself?
Claim
Yes, I should slap myself. I was only supposed to give him an inch, but I’m giving him a freaking mile! The worst part is I’m entirely conscious of what I’m doing, I can’t even blame my wolf because she is sitting perfectly still inside my head, she is not the one saying those ridiculous things!
“Hey! Why are they ridiculous? He is our mate; we should enjoy him to our hearts’ content!” she argued, but this time, I didn’t agree with her.
Yes, we said we would give him a chance if he apologized again, but I never imagined it would happen so soon. I still had to make him grovel a little bit more so he would understand how much he hurt me, not tell him to jump into my bed.
I felt my cheeks flush. I truly, truly didn’t plan to say that. It had just… slipped out.
Aiden went perfectly still. His eyes, which had been hazy with the aftermath of our kiss, sharpened with stunned awareness. He searched my face, looking for any sign of hesitation or doubt.
“Just… sleep,” I clarified quickly, my voice a little too high. “I’m… I’m still not ready for…. anything else. And I toss and turn. But… you’re not in your room, and I can feel the distance, and tomorrow is… tomorrow.” I was rambling, my nerves making a jumbled mess of my explanation.
The corner of his mouth twitched. He was trying really hard not to make me feel even more embarrassed.
“Just sleep,” he repeated, his voice a low, warm rumble. He raised his hand to cup my cheek again, his thumb stroking my skin. “Irina, I would be honored to sleep beside you.”
Uhh…
“Do you think he is lying?” I asked Theia.
“Nope, I truly think he will keep his word, so move aside, human!”
I did what Theia said and stepped to the side. He walked in, his presence immediately making the room feel smaller. Even if this was actually a guest room instead of a maiden’s quarter, he still took up a lot of space.

My heart was still hammering, a frantic, hopeful rhythm. I pointed vaguely toward the empty side of the bed. “That side… is fine.”
He nodded. Aiden didn’t bring anything with him, so I kept wondering what he was going to
wear to-
Before I could even finish that thought, he removed his shirt, exposing his toned upper half. I swear, I felt my whole mouth go dry.
Aiden was not playing fair!
He sat on the mattress, and even though he had just stripped off part of his clothing, his movements were still hesitant, almost as if he were expecting me to throw him out.
I took a deep breath. I’m not sure if I will sleep with him beside me wearing absolutely nothing, but I had to give it a try.
I slipped under the covers on my side, turning my back to him to give us both a semblance of privacy, my body thrumming with a strange, new awareness.
The bed dipped as he lay down, the warmth of his body a solid line behind me, not touching, but close enough that I could feel him. The silence stretched, filled only with the sound of our breathing and the frantic beating of my heart.
Then, I felt it. The lightest touch. His fingers brushed against a few strands of my hair that had spilled across the pillow.
A shuddering breath escaped me, and I slowly, deliberately, shifted backward until my spine was just barely brushing against his chest.
That was all I would do today, if I turned around…
Yeah, I’m not going to get a wink of sleep, of that I was sure.
His arm came to rest over my waist, his hand splaying gently against my stomach, holding me. His forehead pressed against the back of my head, and he let out a long, slow sigh.
“Goodnight, Irina,” he whispered into my hair.
Definitely not playing fair.
“You could do the same…” Theia mumbled, but I decided to ignore her.
We both knew where that would lead us, and I wasn’t kidding when I said tomorrow was important. We can’t miss the trial, and it isn’t held in this pack, meaning we need to wake early if we want to arrive on time.

You can do this, Irina. You just don’t have to remember that there is a hot Alpha right behind you.
“Night, Aiden,” I replied before closing my eyes.
Considering how close he is, I doubt I’ll fall asleen
Or so I thought.
“Irina?”
Whose calling? I’m still so tired, I don’t want to open my eyes…
“Irina, baby?” Hmm?
“Irina, I know you want to sleep some more, but we need to get going,” That low, husky voice insisted.
Ugh. That voice. That unfair, deep, velvety voice that somehow managed to make even the word “going” sound indecent.
I groaned and buried my face deeper into the pillow. “Five more minutes…”
Aiden chuckled softly, and I could feel the sound against my back-low and steady, a vibration that sent a shiver all the way down my spine. Wait-my back? My eyes flew open.
He was still here.
His arm was still draped over my waist, his chest pressed firmly against my spine, his breath warm against the curve of my neck. His scent wrapped around me like a second blanket.
“Oh, good. You’re awake,” he murmured, and I could hear the smirk in his voice.
“Barely, I mumbled, trying to untangle myself from him without making it obvious how flustered I was. Which, of course, only made it worse, because the second I moved, his arm tightened slightly-instinctively.
“Careful,” he said softly. “I didn’t mean to trap you.”
“Well, you did,” I said, my voice muffled against the pillow. “And I can’t exactly show up to a trial with Alpha cuddles all over me.”
That earned me a quiet laugh, and I felt him pull back-reluctantly. The air immediately felt colder.
I sat up, rubbing at my eyes. The sunlight spilling through the curtains was soft and pale,

early morning light. Aiden was sitting on the edge of the bed now, bare-backed, his dark hair a tousled mess.
“You slept well,” he said, glancing over his shoulder at me.
I blinked at him. “You watched me sleep?”
He shrugged. “Only for a little while. I woke up almost an hour ago.”
“Don’t look at me like that,” I muttered, grabbing a hair tie from the nightstand and trying to tame the mess that was my hair.
“Like what?”
“I don’t know, it is creepy that you watched me sleep for an hour,” I mumbled under my breath.
He grinned, slow and devastating. “Can you blame me?”
Smooth talker…
“I wouldn’t call that an excuse,” I shot back, glaring at him-or at least trying to. Hard to glare properly when your heart was doing backflips and your cheeks felt like they were on fire.
Aiden’s grin widened, the smug Alpha in him very much alive and thriving. “You talk in your sleep, you know.”
My blood froze. “I what?”
He turned fully toward me, resting one arm lazily across his knee like he hadn’t just dropped a verbal bomb. “You mumbled something about not giving me too many chances.” His eyes gleamed with amusement. “Apparently, I’ve used up my quota.”
Theia’s laughter exploded inside my head. “Oh, this is beautiful. I wish I had popcorn.”
“Shut it,” I hissed-out loud this time.
