My assistant rapped on the door and entered, interrupting me, “Ms. Anderson. There’s a Ms. Thompson here. She’s from a partner firm and claims to have a major project. She insists on speaking with you.”
“Ms. Thompson? What’s her name?” I looked up, startled. The warmth from Leonardo’s thought faded, replaced by a twinge of wariness.
“Victoria. Here’s her business card.” The assistant handed it over.
I stared at the name “Victoria” on the card, recalling the Thompson family’s business. They were a key downstream partner of Moon-Shadowed Pack, quite influential. I also knew they’d been involved in some projects with the Sanchez family lately.
A major project, and she wanted me specifically. Professionally, as the new head of Moon-Shadowed Pack, I needed wins and stable partnerships. There was no reason to decline. Personally, was Victoria showing up now on purpose? Remembering how she’d looked at Leonardo at the banquet and the rumors about their past, I felt a knot in my stomach.
After a moment’s deliberation, I told the assistant, “Show her in.”
I had to find out what she wanted. In the werewolf business world, backing down wasn’t an option.
Soon, Victoria was ushered in. She’d changed since the banquet. Today, she sported a well-fitted blue checkered suit, her long, slightly curly hair framing her face. She carried a briefcase, looking every bit the professional Omega werewolf, calm and efficient.
I rose to greet her. Her gaze was cool yet polite. We shook hands briefly before she took a seat.
“Ms. Anderson, I’ve got a big project and hope to collaborate with Moon-Shadowed Pack. We can hash out the profit details,” she said matter-of-factly.
We spent about ten minutes going over the project. I’d studied the materials before; it was a great opportunity, and our special project team had been on it. I just hadn’t expected it to be from the Thompson family.
“The proposal looks solid. We’ll need follow-up meetings to iron out the details.” I summed up.
Victoria smiled but didn’t seem eager to leave. “Ms. Anderson, I’d like you to oversee this project personally,” she said.
“Me?” I was a bit confused.
“Yeah. I think you’re the best person for the job in Moon-Shadowed Pack. And…” She paused, a glint of challenge in her eyes. “You know my history with Leonardo. Our families are old friends. We grew up together. Since you’re his fiancée, I’ll feel better if you’re in charge.”
Those words might seem like an attempt to get close, but in fact, they were a declaration of her special relationship with Leonardo. My werewolf instincts made me almost sense a faint air of competition

I felt a prickle of annoyance but kept my voice steady. “Okay, I’ll consider it. That’s all for now. I’ve got other things to do.”
Victoria nodded, gathered her things, and stood up. “Ms. Anderson, I’m not familiar with Moon-Shadowed Pack. Could you show me to the garage?”
“Sure.” Without hesitation, I led her to the elevator.
Inside the confined space, her eyes locked on me. Then she let out a soft laugh. “Ms. Anderson, don’t you think we look a bit alike? Our eyebrows and eyes, I mean.”
“Huh?” I was caught off guard and took a closer look. Our temperaments were different, but there was a faint resemblance in our features, especially the shape of our eyebrows and the depth of our eyes.
“Not just that. Your personality is a bit like mine when I was younger,” she added quickly.
I felt a wave of discomfort. Thankfully, the elevator reached the floor. I stepped out and pointed the way. “That’s the garage, Ms: Thompson. I won’t walk you any further.”
Suddenly, she spun around and clutched my arm with a surprisingly firm grip for an Omega. “Natalie! You’re the heir to Moon-Shadowed Pack, a multi-millionaire. How can you put up with a loveless marriage? Leonardo doesn’t love you. You should just leave him!”
“What on earth do you mean, Ms. Thompson?” While my rational self urged me to wrap up this chat, her words stung like a bee, hitting a nerve.
She continued, “Three years ago, Leonardo and I were almost tied by the Moon Goddess’ vow. It was all my screw-up that he called off the ceremony. If I hadn’t broken his heart so badly, he wouldn’t have just gone and picked someone random to bond with. The second I laid eyes on you, I knew he still had feelings for me. You’re like a carbon copy of me!”
Her words were like a bombshell, ringing in my ears. Fiona had once hinted at the girl Leonardo almost bonded with. Was it really Victoria?
The shock was overwhelming, and it took me a good few seconds to pull myself together. Her words did tug at my heartstrings, but I chose to trust the Leonardo I’d come to know. He wasn’t the type to settle for a look-alike.
