“I don’t reckon Leonardo’s that sort of person. Maybe it was your view of him that made you mess with his feelings back then,” I said coolly and calmly, catching Victoria off guard.
“Don’t you wanna know what went down between us? You’ve only known Leonardo for a short time, and you’re already in his corner?” Victoria prodded.
I just said what was on my mind honestly, “I’m kinda curious, but I won’t hear about your past from you. The past is the past. Just like Leonardo doesn’t care about mine, I’m only focused on the here-and-now him. Ms. Thompson, Leonardo and I are engaged. At first, I didn’t have high hopes for this marriage. It’s just a deal between our packs, and I didn’t really care about Leonardo…”
Leonardo’s POV:
Just as Natalie was laying it out, I showed up behind her. I’d caught wind that Victoria had headed to the Scott Group, so I’d hightailed it over. Before I could go looking for Natalie, I walked right into this scene.
Victoria clocked me. There was a flicker of shock in her eyes, and then she went quiet. She didn’t cut Natalie off. Instead, she was hoping Natalie would keep talking so I’d hear how cold-hearted she seemed.
Just a pack deal? Did that mean Natalie didn’t give a damn about my feelings?
Natalie said, her voice soft but firm as a rock, “But things have changed. Leonardo and I are getting to know each other. To me, he’s tough, kind, and the kind of guy I can count on for life. If I get to spend the rest of my days with him, it’d be an honor. And I keep my word. I won’t break our bond unless he calls it quits first.”
Her words were like a warm, steady light that chased away the clouds in my head. The tightness in my jaw relaxed, and the cold in my eyes melted away.
I stood there, my eyes glued to Natalie’s small but straight back. Tough, kind, and reliable… No one had ever seen me that way before.
Victoria could tell I’d shifted gears. She started to panic. “Natalie, you’ve only been with him a short time. What do you know?”
Before Natalie could answer, I stepped up and pulled her into my arms from behind. I could feel her go rigid for a second, and then her heart started pounding.
“Leonardo?” She turned, looking a bit flustered.
I rumbled, my voice a bit rough, “I heard. It’s an honor for me, too.” I held her tighter, not even bothering to look at Victoria, whose face had gone white as a sheet, and I was ready to get out of there.
Natalie’s cheeks went pink, and she tagged along beside me all shy-like.
Victoria got desperate and blocked our path. “Leonardo! Are you just trying to rub it in? I give up, okay? I’m sorry!”

I said, still looking at Natalie, a little smile on my face, “You heard what my future mate said. We’re in this for life. As long as she’s in, I’m all in.”
. “Mate? You’re just engaged! You haven’t even done the Moon Goddess’ vow!” Victoria was losing it. I could
smell how worked up she was.
“Right away,” I murmured coolly, effectively cutting her off.
Without giving her a chance to keep nagging, I put my arm around Natalie and walked off with long strides.
By the time we settled into the car, Natalie still seemed to be grappling with my “right away”. She sat there, tilting her face, her eyelashes fluttering gently.
It was nearly five o’clock. The Temple of the Moon Goddess typically shut its doors at 5:30 p.m. for the evening prayer.
“Did you bring your Identity Crystal Card and Bloodline Certificate?” I inquired.
“I’ve got
the card, but the certificate is back at the apartment,” she responded.
“Let’s go get it. I’ll have Aaron deliver it straight to the temple,” I said calmly, steering the car steadily in the direction of her apartment.
“Are you serious?” She whipped her head around, her face a picture of shock.
“Yeah. It closes at 5:30. We’ve got enough time,” I replied, my eyes fixed on the road ahead as if I were discussing something as ordinary as the daily news.
“Don’t we need to tell your grandparents first? Isn’t this a bit too hasty…” Natalie’s voice held a tinge of hesitation, yet there was also a glimmer of excitement kindled by my words.
I could totally relate to her feelings. Our engagement had been somewhat forced, and now the bonding ceremony was coming out of the blue.
“Actually, today is a special day,” I started slowly, observing her reaction from the corner of my eye. “I originally just wanted to have dinner with you. But after what you said earlier, I just can’t wait to complete the bonding with you right away.” My voice was low and sincere. “If you’re willing to indulge my whim this time, let’s have the ceremony today. If not, just forget I was being impulsive.”
Just then, her phone rang. It was my grandma. I heard Fiona on the other end asking how busy she was today. Natalie hesitated a bit, and Fiona just cut to the chase. “Today is that boy’s birthday. He’s never liked this day. If you’re free, go keep him company…”
