Just then, the elevator behind us opened. Samuel stepped out. His eyes met mine. And when he noticed Lily beside me, his eyebrow lifted almost imperceptibly.

“What a coincidence,” he said, his tone carrying its usual hint of mockery.

Seeing Samuel, I instinctively moved to shield Lily completely. My pheromones instinctively flared, creating a subtle, protective barrier. “Mr. Scott, you are running late today.” He was usually a workaholic who arrived before everyone else, putting even me to shame,

“Sorry.” Samuel shrugged, waving his conspicuously bandaged hand with deliberate exaggeration. “I saved a beauty last night and got a little scratched up. It slowed me down.” His words had a sharp edge, and his gaze glanced over at Lily again. Lily kept her head down, avoiding his look.

“Sounds like you had quite the night last night, huh?” I had no idea what he was referring to. But Matthew had mentioned Samuel’s messy private life, about how he cycled through women quickly and with no particular preference for type. Besides, Samuel looked disheveled, wearing only an unbuttoned shirt with no tie or jacket. He looked like he’d just rolled out of an all-night club session.

“I can’t pull off a ‘quite the night’ without you, Natalie,” Samuel said, his eyes flicking meaningfully toward Lily again.

He seemed to be implying something. I frowned and asked, confused, “Without me?”

“Natalie, weren’t you going to lunch?” Lily suddenly grabbed my arm, her fingers icy cold. I finally noticed how terribly pale she looked.

“Lily, you look awful. Are you feeling sick?” I steadied her and turned to Samuel, my gaze making it clear he wasn’t welcome.

Samuel snorted but didn’t press further, “I have things to do. I’ll be on my way.” He turned and walked away. But he stopped after two steps and glanced back, his eyes meeting Lily’s directly this time. Lily immediately looked away.

“The Thompson family’s project is signed. There’s an executive dinner tonight, Natalie. Your attendance is required.” He tossed this remark over his shoulder and strode off. The lingering aura from his Alpha pheromones left Lily visibly unsteady.

I frowned. Because of Victoria, I wanted nothing to do with it. But the Thompson family’s project level was too high, and the client specifically requested my team. Professionally, I couldn’t refuse. Personally, I just wanted to avoid any interaction with Victoria.

“Natalie, do you really have to take the Thompson family’s project? Can’t you turn it down?” Lily asked me as soon as Samuel was out of earshot.

“I can’t. The project level is too high, and they specifically requested us. I have no grounds to refuse. Moon-Shadowed Pack can’t just terminate a partnership with such a good downstream collaborator.” I sighed, sensing her worry, and softened my tone, “Don’t worry. I’ll try my best to avoid contact with

Victoria. I won’t give her any opportunity to cause trouble.”

“I just have a feeling she’s more complicated than she seems,” Lily said, her brow furrowed with concern.

I smiled, “We can’t just hide forever. If there are projects involving Victoria in the future, I can’t avoid them all, right?”

The worry didn’t leave Lily’s face. She said, “Then I’ll go with you to dinner tonight.”

“Okay.” I nodded.

Grace’s POV:

At the Richardson Villa, my afternoon nap was ruined by the noise of Nathan, running around downstairs, and Aaliyah’s fake, gentle laughter. A throbbing pain started at my temples.

I snapped, “So noisy!” Ever since that Omega and her pup moved in, my nerves had been shot!

Rubbing my forehead, I called a maid to bring the Moonlight Nectar I’d ordered before my nap. It was a high-grade tonic, supposed to slightly soothe my agitated pheromones.

The maid returned quickly, but empty-handed. “I’ve asked them to prepare a new portion of Moonlight Nectar for you. It will take a little while.” She looked uneasy, even fearful.
