Two hours later, the shoot finally wrapped. The crew started packing up their local kids who had participated were led away by their guide.

My mind was already racing home. I planned to call Natalie as soon as I got in the car.

But before the group had gone far, a strange tremor ran through the mountain. A low, ominous rumble came from the slope above us.

“Watch out! Rock slide!” someone shouted. I turned, and my eyes widened.

From the hillside above, mud and a massive boulder came tumbling down.

People scattered in panic. Directly in the path of the falling debris, a little girl, maybe seven or eight years old, sat frozen on the ground. She stared up at the avalanche of earth and stone, too terrified to move.

I shouted, “Watch out!”

The girl wasn’t far from me. I didn’t think. I just turned and ran toward her.

Aaron’s POV:

“Leonardo!” Victoria turned and saw him. Her face went pale with horror.

“Mr. Sanchez!” I was terrified, too.

But in the face of sudden disaster, fear overpowered everything. I couldn’t move forward. The other guards and everyone else were frozen, too.

Only Leonardo didn’t hesitate for a second.

Amid the roar of the falling boulder, he scooped the girl into his arms, shielding her with his own back. Then he threw himself sideways.

The impact was deafening, shaking the ground.

Leonardo’s POV:

The jagged boulder grazed my side as it crashed down. Flying rock shards hit me hard. The force of the impact made my vision go black. I hit the ground hard, still clutching the girl.

“She’s fine! Mr. Sanchez, just hang in there!” Aaron’s voice was raw, on the verge of tears.

I was bleeding from my head and side. It was bad.

I wanted to tell them not to panic, but speaking just made it worse. A grunt escaped me. My consciousness began to fade, darkness eating at the edges of my vision.

Just before everything went black, I told Aaron, “Don’t let her know…”

He understood immediately. I didn’t want Natalie to find out I was hurt.

“Okay, just hang on. The medical team is almost here,” Aaron said.

Victoria’s POV:

“Leonardo! Leonardo!” I pushed my way to the front and dropped to my knees beside him.

Seeing his collar soaked with blood, tears instantly streamed down my face. My heart ached so badly it felt like breaking.

I wanted to take his hand. But hearing he still thought of Natalie even now filled me with searing, unendurable pain.

Natalie’s POV:

Just then, I drove to the Scott Group. A sudden, strange chill ran down my spine.

I looked at my phone. It wasn’t even 10 a.m. yet.

Leonardo had said he’d contact me this morning. But he still hadn’t replied to the message I’d sent after waking up.

I looked up at the gloomy sky. For some reason, a powerful sense of uncase washed over me.

I had brought Nathan back from the hospital feeling exhausted at noon at the Richardson Villa.

He looked up the stairs and asked, “Mommy, is Daddy really tired? He’s been sleeping for two days.”

Facing his clear, innocent eyes, I didn’t know how to explain. In the end, I just gently stroked his hair. “He just needs more rest. There’s been a lot going on with the family lately. You need to be extra good, okay?”

I looked at her and nodded hard. I knew everyone at home was unhappy. It must be because of that awful woman, Natalie.

When I grew up, I would help Mommy and Daddy. I would take care of that bad woman, Natalie!

After leaving Nathan with a maid, I went upstairs to find Landon. The last two days had been terrible. Benjamin’s condition was bad. He was awake, but the after-effects were severe. He could barely speak. Grace had cried and cried, staying at the hospital all day. The once- powerful socialite now looked worn and ragged.

Anna, whose own pup was just over a month old, had mostly recovered. After hearing about Benjamin, she went to the hospital, too, taking shifts with Grace. That allowed me to come home to watch Nathan, Louisa, and Landon.

Benjamin’s collapse had hit him hard. He’d been feverish and had slept for two days. And Natalie’s revenge followed us like a shadow. She was clearly aiming to wipe out the Richardson Group. She’d somehow gotten a huge cash infusion and had already diluted the Richardson family’s shares to less than 10%. If the family tried to buy back in, even selling everything wouldn’t be enough.
