My fever had just broken, and my body still felt weak. But I got in the car and drove straight to the Richardson Group headquarters.
I knew Natalie was still tightening her grip on the company these past few days. But what really broke me wasn’t the business collapse.
It was her absolute, final decision to leave me.
Only now did I realize my feelings for her weren’t what I’d always told myself they were. During these two feverish days, my dreams were full of her. I dreamed about everything from when we first met to all the moments after, including the timid light in her eyes when we first met, her quiet companionship, and her sacrifices later on.
The sense of security and warmth she gave me was something I never felt in the cold, unfeeling Richardson family. She would stand by me firmly through any hardship. She had made me believe that no matter what we faced, if I didn’t let go, she would never leave.
She would give everything without asking for anything in return. It was so pure it felt precious.
It seemed like I was the one protecting her. But in truth, her acceptance of my family and me had become essential, the very foundation I lived on.
I’d always told myself everything I did was for Aaliyah and the pack. But maybe, by clinging to that excuse, I had actually fallen for her without even realizing it.
I parked near the Richardson Group. Natalie had already blacklisted my father and me, banning us from the premises.
But right now, my mind was a mess, filled only with thoughts of her. All reason was gone.
If I couldn’t go in, I’d wait for her outside. I’d stay on the path she had to take.
I had to see her one more time. I had to tell her how I really felt. I needed to tell her with my own words that this wasn’t about taking back the company, or even Thorn Pack. This was just about getting her back.
After so many years together, even I couldn’t just cut it off. How could she do it so easily?

I’d been busy these days wrapping things up at the Richardson Group. During this time, I spent my mornings at the Scott Group and my afternoons here.
I had just appeared at the company entrance when I saw him.
Landon, the Alpha I had given everything to, who had then trampled me into the dirt, was now rushing toward me, looking utterly pathetic.
“Natalie!” He charged up to me, but security stopped him.
My bodyguards quickly moved in front of me. I stood on the steps, looking down at the man less than 3 feet away.
In only two days, he had already withered away. He was always so meticulous about his appearance. But now he was unshaven, his suit wrinkled and messy, his collar open. He looked completely defeated and frail. His face was pale. He’d breathed in the cold air too quickly in his rush, and when someone pushed him back, he doubled over, coughing. Beads of sweat broke out on his forehead.
But he refused to leave. His eyes pleaded with me. “Please, just let me say a few words. I know I was wrong. I know you don’t want to see me.
“But just for the sake of what we once had.”
My gaze was icy. Seeing him like this gave me a vicious satisfaction, but also a pang of bleak sadness.
Yes, we “once had” something inside a prison built by his lies, where I sacrificed my own heart.
“Landon, how dare you even say that?” I sneered, my voice utterly cold. “Did you come here to tell me a joke?”
“I don’t deserve to, but I… I really do love you,” he said.
His brows were tightly knit, his pale lips trembling. He looked utterly humble, a side of him I’d
never seen.
A flicker of surprise crossed my eyes, and then my expression turned into ruthless mockery.
I said, “Of course. Your principles are as cheap as your dignity.
“If you haven’t finished your lovesick performance, go find Ms. Cooper to act it out with. I’m sure she’d still enjoy it.”
“Natalie, I’m not acting, and this isn’t about the company!” he said frantically, looking at my

cold expression. The pain in his eyes was almost spilling over. “I’ve thought it through. I can give up everything, really! I’m only here for you today. I want to start over with you!”
I turned to walk away. He thought I was hesitating and hurriedly continued, “I know how terribly wrong I was before, that I didn’t cherish you… But please believe me. Since you left, you’re all I can think about.
“Just give me one chance. My heart won’t waver again!”
I stopped walking. Landon tried to embrace me, but my bodyguards held him back.
“Landon.” My voice was slow, icy, and dripping with sarcasm. “You want to start over with me. Then what about Aaliyah?”
He didn’t hesitate. “I can break the mate bond with her!”
I questioned, “What if she doesn’t want to? And Nathan? Your pup, your own son. The Richardson family can’t just abandon him, can they?”
Landon stated, “The Richardson family never really accepted her as my official mate anyway. Whether she agrees or not doesn’t change how I feel. I only want to be with you. As for Nathan, Aaliyah can raise him. We can have our own children.”
He was nearly frantic, desperate to convince me to come back. He was truly willing to throw everything away for it.
“Did you hear that clearly, Aaliyah? Your mate is now determined to break your bond.” I let out a scornful laugh and shifted my gaze to a spot not far behind Landon.
