Chapter 257 People Are Never Satisfied
Landon’s POV:

Benjamin’s eyes shifted, and his breathing grew heavier. It seemed he was trying to say something. But his mouth wouldn’t open, and no words came out. I could feel the faint fluctuations of his mental energy. The once-powerful mental energy of an Alpha werewolf was now shattered and weak.
The doctor said his mind was clear, but he just couldn’t speak. When Anna and Aaliyah had nearly fought earlier, his hand kept trembling on the bedside. Just looking at his face now, I could tell he was in a bad
way.
Aaliyah’s words might have been sincere. But given the circumstances, they just felt empty.
Louisa’s POV:
I let out a heavy sigh.
“Our family is cursed!” I couldn’t take any more. I threw those words down and had someone help me out of the room.
As I passed Landon, I shot him a cold glance. He didn’t dare meet it and immediately looked down.
I was old, after all. After such a huge family disaster, I hadn’t been able to eat or sleep for days. I was surviving on medication, had lost weight, and looked utterly haggard. Seeing my son lying in bed, weaker than I was, even made me think my own final days might be bleak.
Our family was truly cursed, with ungrateful children and grandchildren. How did it come to this?
Grace’s POV:
Even though Louisa and I never truly got along, seeing her stripped of all her usual authority and fierceness made me sad. Was this the end for our Thorn Pack? A pack that lost its Alpha leader, with no strong successor, would get swallowed up by other packs fast.
After Louisa and Anna left, the room grew quiet.
I had no time for Aaliyah and just sat there coldly. Landon noticed and signaled to Aaliyah, hoping she’d try to smooth things over and comfort me.
But Aaliyah pointedly ignored him. She sat down on the sofa, quietly took an apple from the fruit basket, and started peeling it.
I thought she was peeling it for Benjamin or me. Instead, she cut it into pieces and started eating it herself.
There were two dedicated orderlies for Benjamin’s room, plus Anna and I took turns watching him all day. There really wasn’t much that needed doing.
But here were the orderlies, still finding little tasks to keep busy, while Aaliyah-who had come to visit— was already on the sofa, eating fruit and looking at her phone.

My face darkened completely. I finally couldn’t take it anymore and said sarcastically, “Landon, why don’t you take your mate and go. This place is beneath her. We wouldn’t want to tire her out.”
Landon had just finished tidying some things by Benjamin’s bedside. Hearing this, he finally noticed what Aaliyah was doing.
Already in low spirits, he lost his patience, too. “Aaliyah, do you even know how to care for someone? If you want to relax, go home!”
Aaliyah’s POV:
“The orderlies have already done everything here. What else do you want me to do?” My voice was quiet, but my tone wasn’t backing down an inch.
I knew Grace was picking a fight. I picked up the apple again and asked pointedly, “Grace, did you want some apple?”
Grace was fuming but too drained to argue. She took a deep breath, nodded, and muttered, “People are never satisfied. You only know what’s good and what’s bad by comparison.”
She didn’t name names, but the jab was obvious.
I reacted instantly, standing up suddenly. “What’s that supposed to mean? You think Natalie’s so great? Are you insulting me?”
“I didn’t say anything,” Grace sneered.
“Natalie is great? If she’s so great, why did she ruin Thorn Pack?” My voice started to tremble. “Landon and the pack treated her well enough. Did she show any mercy when she got her revenge? She is just a scheming, vicious woman, and you think she’s good?”
I hated nothing more than people praising Natalie. I suffered so much because of her! I gave up everything for Thorn Pack and for Landon-my teaching career, my identity, even keeping my child a secret! And now I was being compared to her?
Landon’s expression turned stormy. He grabbed my arm with tremendous force. An Alpha’s strength was something I couldn’t fight. Before I knew it, he was dragging me out of the room.
“Landon!” It hurt. My wrist felt like it was being crushed. He showed no consideration, pulling me all the way from the room to the hospital entrance.
People streamed past us the whole way. No matter how much I struggled or yelled, Landon didn’t look back or acknowledge me. Other werewolf patients and their families stared with curiosity or disapproval— treating a mate like that in public was extremely rude.
Only outside did he finally toss the car keys at me. “Go home. Don’t come back. You’re not needed here.”
“Landon, are you mad at me? You didn’t see how your mother and Anna treated me?” Tears welled up
in
my eyes.
I hadn’t meant to give Grace attitude. But nobody was born to be a punching bag. Was the Richardson
