I had deliberately provoked the Marshall family to keep them tangled up in conflict with Matthew.
“Liam secretly returned to the country last night,” Samuel added. “You told me to keep watching Matthew. They were being very careful, locking down information tightly. No one was coming or going at the house. I found out from a… close friend of mine who happens to know Matthew’s driver.”
My face darkened. My hand instinctively slammed down on the desk, making the solid wood desk thud.
A bitter laugh escaped me. “Matthew. Liam. Wonderful.”
No wonder Matthew had ultimately sided with Natalie—that suddenly appearing bastard daughter, that hybrid.
It seemed I couldn’t count on a single person from the Scott family anymore.
Well then, they shouldn’t blame me for forgetting we were ever family.
“Matthew is being ungrateful. Should we do something?” Samuel asked quietly.
I thought for a moment, my eyes gloomy. “Of course. I need to leave Maritime City for a few days to meet someone.” I stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the nighttime view of Moon-Shadowed Pack territory. “You go back to the company. Keep a close watch on Natalie. I want to know her every move.”
“Yes,” Samuel replied with a bow of his head.
Aaliyah’s POV:
Late at night, the private hospital of the Richardson family was filled with the strange mix of antiseptic and werewolf medicinal scents.
By the time Landon and I arrived, the rest of the Richardson family was already gathered in Benjamin’s room. Benjamin had woken up earlier that day, but he was in a severe state-conscious, but unable to speak or move.
The doctor said Benjamin had suffered a massive brainstem infarction. Though they saved his life, the chances of recovery were slim. A werewolf’s healing ability did little for brain damage.
This devastating news had shaken the entire Thorn Pack to its core.
Grace, the perpetually haughty Luna, had been crying all day. Anna, her spoiled Omega daughter, was by her side, whining and complaining.
Seeing Landon and me arrive late, Anna charged at me. “You bitch! You’re the reason our family is like this! How dare you even show your face?”
Her voice was shrill and grating, a perfect display of her emotional instability as an Omega.

Being cursed at like that put me in a terrible mood. As Landon’s bonded mate, I deserved respect. But in the Richardson family, I was always an outsider.
“Watch your mouth, Anna. I’m Landon’s mate!” I shot back, refusing to back down. My glare made the pampered Omega flinch a little. “Besides, the one who caused all this is Natalie, not me!”
“Landon’s mate? Aaliyah, you have some nerve!” Anna’s eyes began to shift color-a sign of a werewolf’s rising emotions. “If it weren’t for you seducing Landon for years, making him two-time, and giving the company all those stupid ideas, would Natalie have had a chance to attack us? One bitch in this family was bad enough, and now we have you-another useless, worthless…”
I didn’t let her finish, and a hard slap landed across her face!
I put all my strength into it, my palm stinging from the impact. That would teach her a lesson.
Anna was stunned. Tears instantly welled up, followed by a roar of fury. “Aaliyah, I’ll kill you!”
I knew she had cursed at Natalie like this before. But Natalie never fought back. That Beta hybrid always endured, gave in, and played the obedient role.
But I was not Natalie. I had my own pride and dignity.
Landon’s POV:
The whole family was still drowning in grief, with no energy to spare for Aaliyah and Anna’s squabbling. No one expected them to actually start a physical fight right there in the hospital room.
“Aaliyah!” I quickly grabbed hold of Aaliyah. Anna’s husband, James, also restrained his wife.
“Aaliyah! Get out!” Grace couldn’t take it anymore. Seeing Anna being hit, she yelled at Aaliyah.
I tried to pull Aaliyah away, but she refused to budge. Instead, she said again, her voice cold, “Grace, your daughter started it today. I came here in good faith to see Benjamin. If anyone should leave, it’s her.”
“Aaliyah!” Seeing she wouldn’t listen to me, I snapped at her. “Enough! My father is right here. Can’t you just swallow your pride for once, even if you’re upset?”
“Why should I be the one to swallow?” Aaliyah refused to back down.
“Let me go!” Anna was still trying to retaliate, nearly getting into a fight with James, who was holding her back. James knew how willful Anna could be. Worried this would become a huge scene, he forcibly carried
her out of the room.
With one side gone, I finally dared to loosen my grip on/Aaliyah, but I shot her a fierce warning look.
Despite her unstable emotions, Aaliyah at least knew when to rein them in. She quickly composed herself and fell silent. She just placed the nutritional supplements she’d brought on a side table, walked to my father’s bedside, and said softly, “Don’t worry, Benjamin. Landon and I will handle things at home. Just focus on getting better. Get well soon.”
