Chapter 282 We’re Done!

I would never forget how Liam looked that night after the attack-covered in blood. Grayclaw Pack men were ruthless. It was a warning for me and anyone close to me. Liam survived, but whatever was between us died before morning.
Matthew found me soon after. His voice was cold when he said, “Stay away from my son. You’re not good enough for him. You’ll only ruin him.”
I agreed. Not because he convinced me, but because I already knew it was true.
My phone buzzed again. It was a text from Liam, “Heard your first day at work went well. Hang in there.”
I stared at those few words for a long time. In the end, I didn’t reply. I just slipped the phone back into my bag.
Landon’s POV:
The cigarette burned down to my fingers. The pain jolted me back to the present. I put it out just as Andrew and his mate Eliana walked over.
“Landon,” Andrew said, clapping me on the shoulder. I forced a smile.
We’d just finished dinner, and now the group had moved to a second location-Melody Lounge, a place with old-school decor. Everyone wanted to keep drinking, chatting, and catching up. The air was thick with alcohol, perfume, and the mixed scents of werewolf pheromones.
Andrew and Eliana had invited quite a few friends from our old crowd-some I knew, some I didn’t.
Most of them probably knew my situation. I came alone, without Natalie, and nobody brought her up. But how could I not think about her? All the small talk and fake cheer felt hollow and meaningless.
“Listen, there’s something I wanted to ask you,” I said, finally getting Andrew alone. I hadn’t found the right moment to bring it up during dinner. As an Alpha, I wasn’t used to asking for such favors, but for Natalie, I swallowed my pride.
I told him Natalie and I were going through a rough patch. I asked if Eliana could reach out to her. Natalie valued old friendships, so maybe she’d agree to meet if the invitation came from an old friend. And if Eliana could put in a good word for me, even better.

Andrew seemed surprised at first, but agreed pretty quickly. I felt a wave of relief. It was a small favor-Eliana wouldn’t refuse. Natalie had been close with both of them once, before she changed her number. I was the only one who’d kept in touch over the years.
Andrew mentioned Eliana had actually been hoping to reconnect with Natalie anyway. They were moving back to the country, and she wanted to rebuild old ties.
I gave him Natalie’s contact right away. With that done, I just wanted to escape the noise.
But Andrew insisted I stay, pulling me back toward the private room. I gave in reluctantly. Inside, the music was pounding, and laughter rang too loudly. Sitting in the corner, I felt completely out of place.
I excused myself for some air and stepped into the quieter hallway. That was when I saw her.
Even in the dim light, through the shifting crowd, I’d recognize that silhouette anywhere. It was Natalie!
My blood rushed to my head. My wolf senses sharpened instantly. I could hear my own heart pounding, could pick out her scent in the air-hers alone, mingled with a hint of alcohol. She was walking slowly, a little unsteady.
“Natalie?” My voice came out rough.
The music was too loud, the chatter too dense. She didn’t hear me and kept walking forward.
No, I couldn’t let her leave.
Instinct took over. I moved quickly, blocking her path with my frame.
She looked
clenched.
The soft, tipsy haze in her eyes vanished, replaced by ice-cold disgust. My heart
“Natalie, it’s really you! I know you hate me right now, but I’ve missed you so much. I regret everything I hate myself more than you ever could. Please, just talk to me…” The words tumbled out. I reached for her. My Alpha instincts roared, “Mark her, claim her, and take her back.”
She jerked away like I was poison. The crowd made it hard for her to move. Desperation and frustration swallowed me.
“Get away from me! We’re done!” she roared, looking around for security.
I caught her arm. Her wrist felt so slender in my grip, fragile. I wasn’t letting go. Not again!
She slapped me-hard. The sting didn’t matter. Nothing did except her.

“Hit me, yell at me, do whatever you want! Natalie, I’m serious about making this work. I’ve already asked Aaliyah to break the bond. Just give me one more chance. I’ll do anything.” My voice trembled. I didn’t care about the staring eyes or the approaching staff. In that moment, my world began and ended with her.
