Chapter 284 Steady My Breathing
Chloe’s POV:
Well, this night out for drinks sure took some unexpected turns.

Not long after I gave him the address, Leonardo rushed over. He didn’t look good. Even though he was trying to hold it back, the intimidating aura of a top-tier Alpha was hard to miss.
He picked up the phone Natalie had left on the table and went straight into the bar without a word. That’s when I realized something might be wrong, so I followed him.
Then we saw the whole chaotic scene-Natalie being harassed by some strange guy who even tried to force a kiss on her! The security pulled him off quickly, but it was still pretty shocking. I recognized him. Wasn’t he the ex of hers, the one Penelope mentioned? Her ex-husband?
I was about to say something to Leonardo, but when I turned, he was gone. He’d slipped away without a sound.
Natalie walked over to me, her face cold. I asked about the guy, and she just said, “He’s in the past.” She clearly didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t press. Instead, I told her Leonardo had been here, had seen what happened, and was now missing.
As soon as she heard that, her expression changed. “I have to go,” she said, and then she rushed out in a hurry. She even forgot her phone-well, Leonardo had it.
I shook my head and sighed. So, things weren’t exactly smooth between Natalie and Leonardo either. But judging by how gloomy Leonardo’s face looked for a second there, and how frantic Natalie was to find him, maybe they could work it out?
As for that ex of hers, good luck to him. Pissing off the leader of Silver-Maned Pack was no joke.
Natalie’s POV:
My heart sank. Leonardo saw that? He saw Landon bothering me? Would he misunderstand? Would he be upset?
A sudden, inexplicable panic gripped me. I paused. I turned and ran out of the bar. Leonardo had my phone. When I didn’t see him at the entrance, I headed for the parking area.
Sure enough, there he was in the dimly lit lot, standing by my car.
Leonardo was tall, and his silhouette against the night was straight and imposing. But framed by the shadows, he looked a little lonely.
“Leonardo.” Seeing him there, I felt a wave of relief.

I called his name softly and quickened my pace toward him.
He wore a bulky wool coat. He’d lost some weight recently, which made him look a bit thinner, but his posture was still strong and steady.
Leonardo’s POV:
Natalie wasn’t answering her phone. Chloe said she’d had a bit too much to drink. That wasn’t like her.
When I got to the lounge, I heard noise coming from deeper inside. I found Chloe waiting for Natalie, looking a bit out of it. I took Natalie’s phone and walked toward the commotion.
Following the noise and the sense of disturbance, I made my way to the center of the bar. And then I saw the scene that shocked me.
Under the bright lights, Natalie was in the arms of a man. It was Landon. He was holding her, looking like he was about to do something intimate.
A fierce, primal anger nearly took over. My fangs ached beneath my gums. An urge to tear everything apart surged through me. In the dim light, my pupils constricted sharply, the vertical slit of my wolf’s eyes flashing for an instant.
But the next second, security rushed in and pulled Landon away. Chaos erupted. Landon struggled and roared like a madman. Natalie stood a few steps back, her expression icy with disgust. She said something, then turned and walked away. Her back was straight, her departure final.
I stopped walking. Chloe nearly bumped into me, having seen it, too.
A savage rage battered against my chest. Dark thoughts flooded my mind-break the arm that touched her, rip apart the trash who dared lay eyes on my mate, claim what was mine in the most primitive way…
But I forced it down. I dug my nails deep into my palms. The sharp sting helped me cling to the last shred of my sanity. I couldn’t. I couldn’t lose control like I used to. Natalie was my peace. I couldn’t let the darkness swallow me and scare her away.
I watched her walk to Chloe, exchange a few words, and then look around anxiously before running toward the exit. She was looking for me.
In that moment, the churning violence inside me settled, oddly enough. But it was replaced by something heavier—a cold dread, a surge of jealousy, and a raw mix of anger and pain at seeing her harassed.
I turned quietly and left the noisy scene before she could find me. I needed to cool down and

I walked to the parking area and stood by her car. The cold night air helped me clear my head a bit. I took out my phone and dialed a number. My voice was utterly cold when I spoke, “Melody Lounge. Landon. And everyone he came with tonight. Teach them a lesson. No fatalities. But make sure they remember what happens when they touch someone who doesn’t belong to them.”
I hung up and closed my eyes, trying to steady my breathing. My palm felt wet and sticky. It was blood from where I’d dug my nails in. It didn’t matter.
