Chapter 288 The Truth
Anna’s POV:

Pure anger immediately clouded my judgment. “Is Natalie ever going to stop? I’ve finally seen what a real snake she is!” The words burst out of me, my teeth clenched in hatred. That lowborn, mixed-blood Beta had turned our entire Thorn Pack upside down!
“Anna! Shut your mouth!” Landon snapped, his voice harsh. Even though he looked completely broken, he still couldn’t stand to hear me say a single bad word about Natalie. The look he gave me was filled with exhaustion and pain.
My eyes stung with hurt. I was only standing up for him!
“Hey, Landon, don’t be hard on your sister. She’s just worried about you,” a man chimed in, trying to smooth things over. Then he shifted gears. “Honestly, you and Natalie were meant to be. If things fell apart, the blame lies with Aaliyah. She’s the one who schemed to seduce you.”
Aaliyah? That older Omega? I perked up, listening closely.
The man started recounting old stories. He talked about how Aaliyah had gone out of her way to learn everything about Landon through mutual friends.
She was especially interested in the story of how Landon got stranded on a snowy mountain as a child and was rescued by a mysterious person over three days. She asked for every detail, pressing for descriptions of this savior.
As I listened, a strange feeling started growing in my gut.
Then, I heard Landon ask, his voice chillingly cold, “What exactly did she ask about? Did she know, early on, that I was looking for someone?”
When the answer was yes, all the color drained from Landon’s face. He swayed on his feet, and I rushed to steady him. He pushed me away and grabbed the man by his collar, his eyes bloodshot like a wolf gone mad. “You’re telling the truth?”
“Yes! It’s the truth!” that man said.
Landon let go. It was like all the strength had been sucked out of him at once. His mouth opened slightly, and a strange, choked sound came from his throat. Then, he started laughing. The laughter grew louder and more frantic until tears streamed down his face.
Everyone around us looked horrified. They quickly made excuses and scattered. The classmate was dragged away by his wife. I rolled my eyes at their retreating backs. They were all fair- weather friends!

“Landon, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” I asked, worried, holding onto his arm.
“I was wrong,” he said, looking at me. His eyes were wet, but a twisted smile still clung to his lips.
“It’s not your fault. It’s Aaliyah’s and Natalie’s…” I rushed to say.
“No. It’s my fault,” he cut me off. A single tear fell. The bitterness in it seemed contagious. His eyes were full of self-loathing and utter disillusionment.
On the drive back to his villa, he was completely silent, like a lifeless statue. The house was empty, without a single servant in sight. Since Natalie left, Aaliyah rarely came back, and with Thorn Pack in trouble, the place felt as cold as a tomb.
I was worried and wanted to stay to look after him, but James looked thoroughly annoyed. Landon also told us to leave in a hoarse voice. “Just go. Leave me alone.”
James was more than happy to oblige. He immediately pulled me out of there.
Sitting in the car, watching the sky begin to lighten outside the window, the fire in my heart only burned hotter. This was all Natalie’s fault! If not for her, Landon wouldn’t be like this, and the family wouldn’t be in this mess! That jinx!
I took out my phone, found Natalie’s number, and dialed. Sure enough, it was blocked. I tried James’ phone-same result. She was hiding because she knew she was guilty!
“Natalie! You wretched woman, if I ever see you again, I won’t let you off easy!” I shrieked in fury.
“You? Give me a break. If you ever saw Natalie again, you’d be the one she wouldn’t let off easy,” James mocked from the driver’s seat.
I glared at him fiercely. Ever since the family fell on hard times, this man had grown more and more impatient with me. I knew what he was thinking-that I was useless, not like a woman like Natalie who could make her own way in the world. What a typical man.
“James, don’t make me slap you!” I shot back. Our relationship had long been a sham, held together only by shared interests. He was afraid a divorce would cost him half his assets. I was afraid of having no support if Thorn Pack collapsed completely. We were just torturing each other.
But I didn’t have time to fight with him now. The fact that Natalie blocked us and was hiding meant she was scared. I had to find her.
“Can we track her? I want Natalie’s location!” I said, grabbing my phone to find someone who could do it. Once I found her, I’d slap her hard a few times, then drag her back to Thorn Pack and make her kneel before Dad and Landon to beg for forgiveness!

She took so much money from Landon. That was during his bond with Aaliyah-it counted as misusing marital assets. I would get a lawyer and sue her!
“That’s illegal,” James stated coldly.
“I don’t care!” I was past reasoning.
James slammed on the brakes and snatched the phone from my hand. “Will you just stop? Landon tricked her with a fake bond! If you push her too far, who knows who’ll end up biting back?” he roared, his eyes full of disapproval.
