“Heartache?” The doctor was puzzled for a few seconds, then seemed to understand. Taking Aaron’s hint, he added in a low voice, “Well… Mr. Sanchez, if there’s something weighing on you, it’s best to resolve it sooner rather than later.”

“I’m tired. I want to rest.” I turned away and closed my eyes, unwilling to hear any more.

Seeing this, Aaron could only usher the doctor out.

A short while after they left, my phone buzzed. My heart gave a violent lurch, feeling like it might jump out of my chest. I grabbed it immediately and answered without looking.

“Hello?” My voice was more hoarse and urgent than I’d intended.

“How are you feeling today, dear?” It was my grandmother’s voice, filled with her usual kindness and

concern.

The tiny spark of hope that had just flickered to life in my chest died out right away. In its place was a deeper hollowness and self-mockery.

Leonardo, what were you expecting? You were the one who had pushed her away.

“I’m fine. About yesterday… I’m sorry for worrying you all,” I said, struggling to keep my tone even.

“Don’t you dare apologize, silly boy! Your father is the one who’s being ridiculous!” Her voice held anger and helplessness. “We gave him a good talking-to after we got back. But his stubborn temper hasn’t changed in decades. Poor child, having a father who can’t think straight…”

She sighed, her voice full of pity, “Just ignore him. Focus on getting better. Natalie… She must have been terrified. How is her hand? I want to come see you both.”

“No, Grandma. That’s not necessary,” I said immediately. “We’re… fine. I’ll take care of her hand.” I was lying. I didn’t even know where she was right now, or if her hand still hurt.

“Oh… I see,” she said, apparently picking up on the stiffness and gloom in my voice. “Alright then, I’ll visit in a few days. Leon, you two must be good to each other. Natalie is a wonderful girl. She was so brave yesterday. Anyone can see she truly cares for you. But she must have been frightened, too. Be gentle with her. You both need to be well.”

“Okay,” I mumbled in vague agreement.

She hesitated again, her tone growing even more tactful. “By the way, I have an old friend. She specializes in… well… healing for the mind and bloodline after trauma, overseas. Would you consider talking to her sometime? Just to chat and relax? I know you’ve carried some old wounds for a long time. There’s nothing wrong with that. Who doesn’t have some scars or emotional baggage these days? You just need to work through it…”

She was trying her best to make it sound trivial. But her deliberate caution weighed on my chest, making it hard to breathe.

Even my grandmother, who loved me most, still fixated on my “condition.” I’d worried them for so many years. Maybe I really was an unworthy heir to the Silver-Maned Pack.

“Okay,” I heard myself answer dryly. “I’ll think about it.”

After the call ended, a dead silence filled the room. Out of habit, I opened my contacts. My finger hovered over “Natalie.” The screen’s light reflected off my pale knuckles.

In the end, I didn’t press it.

Miranda’s POV:

After getting home last night, I was so upset that I had a huge fight with Ryan. I even brought up breaking our bond.

I’d put up with Ryan’s temper for too many years.

Out of love, duty, and care for the Sanchez family, I’d always played the role of the understanding peacemaker.

I was the only one who could soothe Ryan’s stubborn, difficult moods.

But seeing Leonardo and Natalie treated so terribly, especially Leonardo…

Ryan knew full well about the trauma Leonardo carried from childhood, yet he still had to provoke Leonardo over his own pride.

He caused Natalie to get hurt.

Remembering the frightening scene from last night, I still felt a chill of fear. I couldn’t accept it.

In my anger, I went straight back to my own pack.

Ryan’s POV:

Miranda threatened to break our bond over the Leonardo incident. That finally scared me. Also, I was afraid my parents would force me to apologize to Leonardo. I couldn’t handle the loss of face. It was better to lie low for a while.

Leonardo’s loss of control last night reminded me of that previous time he briefly lost it during a conflict.

He was later diagnosed with stress related to trauma. It could trigger an unconscious shift and a fit of rage, leading to violent behavior.

His engagement to Victoria was called off not long after that happened.

Back then, my parents were abroad. To save face, I hushed it up. I consulted doctors. They said that while Leonardo’s behavior was uncontrollable, it was only a low possibility under extreme emotional distress.

He wouldn’t actually become a mindless beast.

Even so, I was deeply disappointed.

I didn’t want the Silver-Maned Pack to have an heir who might lose control at any moment. I especially

didn’t want that heir to be my own son.

How could the child, my beloved woman had risked her life to bring into the world, turn out so weak-to wallow in trauma and become a beast?

I couldn’t understand it. After that, I stopped involving myself in Leonardo’s personal life and focused on my work.

Communication between us went from tense to worse, always edged with wariness and criticism.

People thought Leonardo was afraid of me.

But in my heart, I was more afraid of Leonardo-afraid he would make a mistake, afraid he would lose his head, and afraid he would truly lose control.
