Chapter 330 Like Leonardo’s Shadow
Aaron’s POV:
I still didn’t move. I even pulled out my phone. “Ms. Thompson, could you please say into the camera, ‘I have taken my medication and am feeling better. Anything that happens from now on has nothing to do with Aaron.””
Her eyes widened. A flush of anger spread across her pale face. “You… Are you paranoid? Do you think I’m going to blame you for something?”
I offered an apologetic smile, but my stance remained firm. “Ms. Thompson, I don’t think you’d do that, but I’m worried you-or someone close to you-might use tonight’s events to cause trouble for Mr. Sanchez later.”
I had to head off any potential future trouble for Leonardo and Natalie. Victoria’s obsession with Leonardo was clear to me.
“You…” My words left her speechless. Her chest rose and fell, clearly furious.
“You’ve taken your medicine, so I’m relieved. As for your return today and your discomfort tonight, I won’t tell a soul, including Mr. Sanchez,” I said, putting my phone away and looking at her. “But in return, could you promise me you’ll return abroad as soon as possible?”
I was genuinely thinking of her. Staying here would only bring more pain and potential trouble. There was no benefit.
“What did you say?” Her voice rose sharply with incredulous anger. “You’re telling me to leave? What do you think I’m doing here, clinging on?”
Her stomach issue might not flare up often, but her current agitation seemed to bring the discomfort back. She pressed a hand to her abdomen.
“What I mean is, since you returned secretly, the longer you stay, the greater the risk of someone finding out,” I explained, honestly trying to be helpful.
“Get out!” She grabbed a cushion from the sofa and threw it at me. It was a weak throw, falling short before it even reached me.
I stood straight, not flinching, and simply nodded. “Then please rest well, Ms. Thompson. I’ll leave you be.”
With that, I turned to go.
“Wait…” Her voice came from behind me, carrying a barely noticeable hint of fragility..
I stopped and turned. “Is there something else, Ms. Thompson?”
Still pressing her stomach and not looking at me, she asked quietly, “What’s your daily rate?”
I was confused. “What do you mean?”
“I can’t sleep. My stomach hurts, and I feel terrible. I didn’t bring an assistant. I came back alone,” she said, her gaze fixed on a dim corner of the room.
“And?” I still didn’t understand.
I just couldn’t harden my heart completely.
If I had truly wanted to hurt Leonardo, I would have gone to Natalie long ago, back when he first stood me up before I went abroad.
It was clear now that Leonardo and I were completely over.
I couldn’t bring myself to wish him happiness. But for my own dignity, I could at least try not to disturb him anymore.
Ever since Leonardo and Natalie got engaged, I’d needed friends on the phone or an assistant outside my door nearly every night just to fall asleep.
After seeing Leonardo and Natalie tonight, I knew I couldn’t handle being alone.
And now there was Aaron.
His words might be blunt, but he seemed reliable and decent.
Most importantly, he was always by Leonardo’s side-like Leonardo’s shadow.
Somehow, I just wanted him to stay with me for a while.
