Fake Mate Beta Rises to Alpha Heiress (Natalie and Landon) novel Chapter 336

Chapter 336 Seethe With Envy

Landon’s POV:

It was late into the night by the time I made it back home, utterly dejected. The house was pitch dark. It wasn’t even deep winter yet, but the air felt icy enough to make my teeth chatter.

My old injuries seemed to flare up all at once. The pain, along with the hollow ache in my chest, slowly ate away at my nerves. I sat in her room. It was so tidy it seemed she had never left, yet so barren it felt like ruins.

Two months ago, she was still here, waiting for me to come home. Back then, I thought I had everything under control. I thought she would always be the harbor I could return to when I was tired.

But how, in the blink of an eye, had she become someone else’s mate?

Just thinking about Natalie arm-in-arm with another guy at the supermarket made me boil with envy!

“Natalie, why are you being so cruel to me?” I murmured.

I couldn’t find an answer. I couldn’t understand.

How could someone change their heart so quickly, so completely?

Were all her years of kindness to me just a lie?

Samuel’s POV:

“Everything is… fine. Don’t worry.” My voice hitched slightly as my eyes flicked to the passenger seat.

The woman sat there, wearing headphones, her profile turned to watch the night speeding past the window. She seemed lost in her own world, not paying attention to my call.

It was Penelope calling to check on Moon-Shadowed Pack affairs. Natalie was meeting Vincent next week and was on vacation this week, spending time with her mate. But she had left everything perfectly organized before her break. The company was calm.

My report was vague, and Penelope immediately picked up on it. “Is someone there with you?” she asked, suspicion in her tone.

“No.” I denied instantly, my voice so steady I almost believed it myself. “Of course not. I’m just driving.”

The thought made my chest tight, almost suffocating.

If I ever found proof that Penelope was my enemy…

It would mean denying my entire life, my very reason for existing, everything I’d ever done,

I let out a heavy breath and glanced again at the woman beside me.

“Hey, talk to me,” I said. When she didn’t react, I reached over and patted her thigh.

“Samuel!” she shouted, her whole body jerking back into the corner by the door. Her hand gripped the handle tightly, like a startled animal.

“Why are you shouting? I’m not going to eat you!” I was exasperated. She had been acting like a passenger since she got in, barely looking at me. Did she think I was a free chauffeur?

I hadn’t planned on being out this late. But when I was leaving work, I saw Lily outside the office desperately trying to hail a cab. She looked frantic, like something was really wrong.

I asked her what happened. It was her younger brother, Harry. He’d gotten into a fight at school and was now at a hospital near the campus. Harry’s school was in the neighboring city, not far, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive. But the school was in a pretty remote area. It didn’t seem right to let Lily go alone this late at night.
