However, the youthful naivety of the privileged heir was gone from his face. Beneath the weary look in his eyes were unhidden aggression and menace. He was like a lone wolf who had lost his territory but sharpened his claws.

And yet, this was exactly what I liked about him now.

I had seen it long ago-Landon was selfish, callous, and ruthless at his core. He was no noble with a loving soul, not deep down.

While he was talking, I was changing. My smooth back was fully exposed to him.

I hummed in acknowledgment, deciding which dress to wear tonight. “The Scott Group representative is taking me to dinner. Help me pick. What should I wear?”

Landon tossed aside the towel he was holding and pulled me against his chest, his arm wrapping around me. “Take me with you.” He lowered his head, his teeth grazing my ear, his voice muffled yet leaving no room for refusal.

He had never been this forceful with me before, but he was usually more tender with me.

But I sensed he had changed, becoming more arrogant and colder.

Was it the hatred for Natalie that had made him so venomous?

“Why do you want to go? So eager to meet someone from the Scott Group?” I teased him, reaching back to touch him, my fingertips tracing the muscles of his back.

Landon’s POV:

“Yes.” I breathed out lightly, letting her touch me. I did want to meet the Scott Group people, to see Natalie’s face when she saw me. She was the Scott Group heiress, yet she had deceived and played me time and again, indirectly causing Grandma’s death.

I wanted to see-when Aaliyah showed up as the head of Gallop Energy’s branch, when she learned the partner was the business of Natalie’s pack, when she witnessed Natalie’s lofty status now-could she still maintain this pose of thinking she could save everything?

And what would Natalie’s expression be? Surprise? Mockery? Or that same cold, detached look, as if it had nothing to do with her?

But this was also my own twisted amusement.

Night fell over Maritime City’s central district, the streets teeming with traffic.

From the air, the dazzling neon lights created a bewilderingly vibrant scene. Standing before the floor-to-ceiling window in the Scott Group headquarters, watching the river of cars below surge like a herd of beasts, I spoke softly into the phone.

“Don’t worry, Mother. The Gallop Energy matter will be handled. As for Natalie, no word will reach her.” A slight smile played on my lips.

But the moment the call ended, the smile vanished.
