The enemy of my enemy was a friend. If Landon could get under Natalie’s skin, I was willing to use him, even to temporarily ally with him.
It was a pity that the Thorn Pack was too weak. I had considered backing them, but their Alpha leader lost his composure and fell from grace too fast.
The crucial point was that Natalie moved on too quickly. If Landon couldn’t manipulate her through her emotions, he had no real value left.
Now, Penelope strongly supported the Gallop Energy deal, clearly aiming to bypass Natalie and regain control of the pack and the company. Adding Aaliyah to the mix would only make things more entertaining.
If Natalie refused to cooperate with Gallop Energy, she’d be going against the Scott Group’s overall interests and the direction set by Alexander before his death. If she agreed, she’d be inviting an enemy right under her nose.
Penelope’s methods were indirect, but they cut deep. She didn’t aim to kill Natalie-only to make her miserable, isolated, and unwelcome in the pack. Aaliyah and Landon were the ones who most infuriated and annoyed her.
Thinking about it, I almost felt a twinge of pity for Natalie.
I changed my jacket and was about to leave the office when I opened the door and found Lily standing right there.
She stared straight at me as if looking at something dirty, her expression mixed with wariness, disgust, and disbelief.
“What are you doing? Lurking outside my office, eavesdropping?” I immediately demanded, my Alpha presence unconsciously surfacing.
With anyone else, I’d be genuinely displeased, but this was Lily. My patience stretched a bit further, like a predator occasionally finding amusement in a particularly reckless prey, especially seeing that she was holding a thermos jug.
“What’s this?” I took it from her without waiting for an answer. Lily was stunned for a second, then snatched it back, swift as a pup guarding its food.
“It’s an herbal tonic soup I made,” she mumbled.
“Oh? Made it just for me? Thanks,” I smiled and easily took it back again. In terms of strength,

I had helped Harry transfer to a better werewolf school. On the way back that day, Harry kept thanking me. I casually said Lily could be the one to thank me.
Lily’s POV:
On the drive back, Harry mentioned my herbal tonic soup was pretty good. The two of them teamed up on me, assigning me this task. Samuel told me to make him some soup next time as his thank-you gift.
Of course, I refused. He had already made me give him a massage as “repayment” once. How could someone be thick-skinned enough to ask for a second thank-you gift? But in front of Harry, I couldn’t say anything, so I just quietly endured.
“It’s not for you. Someone else made this, and there was some leftover.” I took it back again.
I wasn’t lying. This soup really wasn’t mine. Why would I make something like this for Samuel? But a colleague tried making it for the first time, used too many random ingredients, and the result was a dark, terrible brew. No one would drink it. That was when I remembered Samuel
had asked for this.
I figured I’d bring it over to shut him up, and maybe mess with him a little.
But his office door wasn’t shut tight. Just as I arrived, I heard Samuel talking about Natalie.
I knew very well that Samuel was up to no good. Mentioning Natalie never meant anything good. Angered, I didn’t even feel like pretending anymore. I picked up the thermos jug and turned to leave.
Samuel’s POV:
“Getting shy, are you?” I grabbed her wrist. It felt soft. I was a tiny bit moved inside.
“Such a stubborn one. If you’re giving a gift, be gracious about it. I won’t look down on you having feelings for me.” I knew my narcissistic words would annoy Lily, but I enjoyed seeing her flustered expression.
But this time, Lily didn’t retort. She just let me open the jug and pour a cup of warm, pitch- black soup. The color and the smell were terrible. So I frowned at her.
She smiled, nodded, and made a “please” gesture, a flicker of slyness in her eyes.

I narrowed my eyes at her. The foul, mixed-herb smell lingered in my nose. I pressed my lips together for a long moment but ultimately retreated. For a werewolf with a sensitive nose, this
was torture.
