“Then call the police.” I couldn’t be bothered to say more. I knew doing something like this meant my back-and-forth with Samuel was over. It was just a shame-I couldn’t avenge Nova, couldn’t tear this piece of trash apart with my own hands.

Samuel took a step closer. I could see his chest rising and falling, his breath slightly unsteady, his voice carrying a barely noticeable tremor. “Beg me… and maybe I’ll consider forgiving you.”

The corner of my mouth twitched, but I felt no trace of a smile. “I don’t need your forgiveness, Samuel. For scum like you, no matter what I do, I won’t feel an ounce of guilt.”

“Lily!” he growled, and before I could react, he hurled his phone straight at me.

I didn’t expect the sudden violence. Caught off guard, the corner of the phone struck my shin hard. A sharp pain shot through me, drawing a muffled groan. I almost lost my balance.

The urge to crush Lily was real. But even as I raised my arm, my hand refused to come down.

For a moment, the anger burned so deep it physically hurt.

Lily hadn’t just shattered the confidence I forced myself to wear-she’d broken through the walls I’d put up around myself.

A woman like her… why did even a woman like her look down on me?

Penelope’s icy words from my childhood seemed to echo in my ears again.

I took a deep breath. The muscles in my arm tensed, veins standing out.

But after a long moment, I forced it down.

I grabbed Lily’s face, my grip tight. “Look at me.”

Her eyes stayed shut.

I pulled her into my arms, my mouth seeking hers. Finally, her eyes flew open, and she fought back wildly.

We struggled, twisting and shoving, until we both tumbled onto the sofa.

Lily’s POV:

His half-naked body pinned me down, his scorching temperature and dominant Alpha scent holding me firmly in place. His ragged breath hit the side of my neck. “Beg me…”

“In your dreams!” I hissed, my face flushed from struggle and fury. Pressed against his solid frame, feeling the undeniable difference in strength, of course, I was scared. But maybe this was for the best. If he really dared to go further, I’d at least make him pay a price.

He let out a bitter laugh, emotions swirling in his eyes. “Lily, you dare say you feel nothing for me? You got close to me just for Natalie? For her, you could play the seductress with someone you despise?” He sounded like he was trying to convince himself, or accusing me.

“You’re right.” I stared into his eyes, mere inches away, my every word clear and sharp. “I do feel something. What I feel for you is disgust!”

While he was briefly stunned by my words, I yanked my hand free and slapped him across the face with all my strength!

Samuel’s POV:

The sting of the slap made me grab her face again, almost hitting back. But seeing Lily’s red- rimmed eyes, glistening with tears, that impulse to retaliate was stifled once more.

“I’m disgusting? Then what about you? Scheming to get close to me all this time-isn’t that disgusting?” I snarled the words, but my heart felt like it was being squeezed dry.

I’d had too many flings. Whenever things blew up with a woman, I was always the one being begged to stay.

How was it that now, before anything had even really happened with Lily, I felt like I was the one being dumped… even being played for a fool?
