“You knew all along that Aaliyah would face prison,” I said, ignoring his question and bringing up something else. “She’s your bonded mate, the one who’s put up with humiliation for you all these years and bore Nathan. You clearly knew she used my data, yet you never warned her. Landon, that’s truly heartless.”
Back in the conference room, Aaliyah was still worried about him, begging me not to target him anymore. But I told her that Landon was the one who returned this USB drive to me. He knew everything-he never even bothered to warn Aaliyah.
Honestly, I was surprised. After Louisa’s death, the Thorn Pack should be scared to death of me.
So why let Aaliyah walk straight into the Scott Group to humiliate herself?
Now, seeing Landon waiting for me here, I was even more taken aback by his ruthlessness.
Landon’s eyes flickered. He didn’t deny it or make excuses. Instead, he turned the accusation on me. “I’m heartless? And you? Natalie, I wronged you emotionally, but during our time together, I never mistreated you. What about you? You didn’t just take everything from the Thorn Pack— you caused Grandma’s death. Aren’t you even more heartless?”
His words were full of resentment and blame, but his voice was shaky.
I looked at him, feeling nothing more than ridiculousness and pity. “Landon, are you saying all this because you want to join Aaliyah inside?” My voice was cold.
He lowered his head, staring at the ground. After a long pause, he spoke in a nearly whispered voice, “You’re the heiress of Moon-Shadowed Pack. I know I can’t defy you. But if I died, would you actually be happy?”
Hearing his words, I understood he still hadn’t given up on me. But I was surprised to hear such a thing from him. A man like Landon, seemingly heartless-would he really die for someone else?
All these years, no matter how hard I tried, I never got even a little bit of remorse from him. Shouldn’t he know better than anyone that trying to trade self-sacrifice for feelings was the most foolish and useless act?
Thinking back to my younger self-the one who had a crush on him, put up with things for him, thinking it was love and affection-I just felt incredibly stupid, even ashamed.
Thankfully, that was all in the past. I met Leonardo. He showed me that a true mate bond wasn’t about taking, deceiving, or using, but about respect, trust, and supporting each other. He

made me willing to believe in a deep soul connection again, to forgive all the past’s ugliness. Otherwise, I’d never have known what truly beautiful feelings were like.
Looking at this broken, obsessive man in front of me, trying to stir my emotions with his last bit of significance, I felt nothing-only a faint, pitying detachment.
“Landon,” I said calmly, each word clear and distinct, “whether you live or die has nothing to do with me. From the moment you chose to betray me, to hide your bonded relationship with Aaliyah, to use me as a tool and a shield… we became strangers.”
His life or death wouldn’t make me happy or sad. He was already an irrelevant person in my life.
With that, I turned to leave.
“Natalie!” Landon’s voice rose a few notes after I’d taken several steps. “Is there really… nothing left between us?”
Landon’s POV:
I wanted to hear her curse me a few more times-even if it angered Natalie, even if she retaliated against me even more harshly.
I just wanted proof that I still held some place in her heart.

apart.
A few hard blows to my stomach made my eyes water from the pain. My legs gave out, and I dropped to my knees.
Pressing my hands against the ground, I could no longer see Natalie’s retreating back.
But in my confusion, I seemed to see the moment I proposed to her.
I was just on one knee, my words unfinished, when she took my hand and gently leaned into my embrace.
We could never go back.
Natalie’s POV:
Back in the car, I felt another wave of nausea for some reason.
