I put down my handbag and hurried over, diving into his open arms. Every day when I got home, the first thing I did was hug and kiss him.
His embrace was broad and warm, a safe haven from the world-I could never get enough of it. I pressed my face into the crook of his neck, inhaling his clean, comforting scent.
“Did you miss me?” I nuzzled his shoulder, my voice muffled but playful.
“Yes, I missed you.” He wrapped his arms around me carefully, his hand gently stroking my hair. “I don’t know why, but I missed you especially today.” His voice was soft in my ear.
“I missed you, too,” I whispered shyly, then quickly pressed a kiss on his cheek before he could
react.
I was finally experiencing the sweetness of the honeymoon phase. I just wanted to stick close to him, and the closer we were, the more I wanted to be near him. Even though we’d spent almost every moment together in Kaelis City, being apart for just a few hours had me flooded with longing.
Now, held tightly in his arms, inhaling his intoxicating smell, that empty feeling was completely
gone.
I drew back a little, cupped his face in my hands, and rested my forehead lightly against his. Feeling his normal warmth, I relaxed a bit. “I bought some very fresh ingredients today. I’ll make you something good.”
“Okay.” His eyes crinkled at the corners with a smile, forming faint laugh lines.
“What would you like?” I asked.
He smiled, “Anything you make, I’ll love it.”
I’d expected that answer. I smiled, pressed my lips together, and turned to go change into loungewear.
Usually, Leonardo followed me around like a shadow at home, but today he seemed especially clingy.
The moment I returned to the bedroom, he followed me in, wrapping his arms around me from behind. Warm kisses landed on the side of my neck, then behind my ear-soft and gentle. A simple change of clothes should have taken no time, but it ended up taking nearly forty minutes.

In the kitchen, the reluctance to part continued. Leonardo tied my apron for me, his body pressed close to mine, and we lingered there for a long time before actually starting to cook. By the time we did, it was completely dark outside.
“Go rest for a bit. It’ll be ready soon,” I said, trying to push him out of the kitchen.
“No.” He refused, rolling up his sleeves. “I’ll help you prep. I don’t want you working alone.”
Even though he knew I was far more skilled in the kitchen, he insisted on joining in, handling the ingredients clumsily but seriously. We could have asked a pack servant to help, but neither of us wanted to give up our alone time.
Worried Leonardo would get too hungry, I quickly put together a salad, pasta, and a steak. They were simple dishes, but he always showed his appreciation by cleaning his plate.
In his eyes, my cooking was better than any restaurant’s or the pack chef’s. That undisguised affection filled me with confidence and joy.
I realized then that being loved so deeply and unconditionally could make a person this happy, this full of life. People didn’t die without love, but loving someone made them truly feel alive.
Leonardo’s POV:
After dinner, I held her on the sofa. The city’s nightscape spread out outside the window, but it was nothing compared to the light in her eyes.
I said, “Natalie, our new place is almost ready. When you get back from Mervia, let’s set a date for our mate bonding ceremony, okay?”
Even though we were already soul-bonded before the Moon Goddess, the public ceremony- where we’d receive blessings from all the packs-was the grand celebration I’d always wanted to give her.
She nodded in my arms and said, “Sure. I’ll need to ask the most respected elders to pick the luckiest day, one most favored by the Moon Goddess.
“Fiona mentioned she knows a few old friends who are experts in that. We can all decide together.” Mentioning my grandmother seemed to remind her of something.
“Oh,” she said, took my hand, her eyes bright. “When we get back, let’s visit Miranda. She worries about you so much. Given how your father is…” She paused, choosing her words carefully. “I think if it were me, I’d find it hard to forgive him, too.”
Natalie’s POV:
Ryan wasn’t the type to sweet-talk people. Getting Miranda to come back would take our help.
