I turned to look at him, unsure what he was thinking. His eyes were clouded with gloom.

I thought he was thinking about Ryan again, feeling down.

I said, “I’ll be with you always from now on. If being around your father makes you unhappy, we can see him less-even not at all. I don’t care how he sees me, and you shouldn’t either.

“Elders grow old eventually, after all. Just like pups grow independent, elders will one day need to rely on the younger generation.

“Leonardo, the hurt he caused you is part of your life. It can’t be erased, and you don’t need to force it to heal completely. Sometimes the best way to deal with it isn’t a total cure, but learning to live with it and keep it from getting worse.”

I never knew ordinary parental love, and I’d spent half my life alone. So, of course, I understood the sadness and pain Leonardo felt.

My heart ached for him, just as his ached for me.

He listened and softly replied, “Okay.”

I sensed his distraction and quietly glanced up at him.

Leonardo was looking down, playing with my hand, tracing each of my fingertips.

“What’s on your mind?” I couldn’t help asking, leaning in until my breath brushed softly against the corner of his lips.

He looked up, meeting my playful gaze, knowing I was teasing him. “You.”

I said, “Still thinking about me? But you’re not even listening.”

“I am listening. I remember every word,” Leonardo smiled, pressing my hand against his cheek.

His handsome features, his deep-set eyes, looked even steadier and more resilient in the dim light.

He said, “Natalie, since we’re already bonded, let’s draw up a detailed property agreement and get it notarized, okay?”

I was startled. “A property agreement? Notarized?” Then I laughed, a bit teasingly. “What? Are you worried our bond might fall apart someday, and I’ll take off with the Silver-Maned Pack’s

“No,” Leonardo explained gently. “Quite the opposite. I don’t want you facing any future risks. Moon-Shadowed Pack is already a lot to take on. If you ever feel tired, you can set it aside anytime. But Silver-Maned Pack also needs an excellent lady of the house. With your abilities, I believe you can easily handle important roles within the pack, even as deputy leader.”

“Enough,” I said, shaking my head with a smile. “Moon-Shadowed Pack is plenty for me. I couldn’t possibly take on a responsibility like deputy leader of Silver-Maned Pack.”

I knew Leonardo mainly wanted to give me more security and status. Did love always make someone feel like they owed? Maybe that was why he wanted to give me the Silver-Maned Pack, too.

“You could handle it,” Leonardo insisted patiently, his eyes holding mine. “It’s not just about a position or a voice in the pack. All my personal assets, investments, the core shares I own in Silver-Maned Pack’s business empire… you should have full rights to all of them.”

I asked, “We’re bonded mates. What’s yours is mine, isn’t that already the case?” We’d made our vow before the Moon Goddess. The Silver-Maned Pack treated me well. I wasn’t worried about these things.

Leonardo’s POV:

“Yes, but a document with strong legal and pack contract validity would make that default right unbreakable under any circumstances,” I said, tightening my grip on her hand, voicing my inner fear. “If… something ever happened to me, only with this document could I truly rest easy.”

Silver-Maned Pack was complicated-there were branch families and different interest groups. Ryan’s attitude was unpredictable. Grandma and Miranda would protect her, but they were getting older. I had to make sure that even if I were gone, Natalie’d have enough power and wealth to protect herself and keep herself safe from harm.

Her brows suddenly furrowed.

She pushed my arm away, sat up straight, and stared intently at my face. “What are you talking about? Leonardo, you’re being really strange today. What could happen to you?” Her voice was stern, with a barely noticeable tremor.

“It’s just a hypothesis. A plan for the worst-case scenario.” I cupped her face, my thumb gently stroking her furrowed brow.

“I don’t like that hypothesis! Not one bit!” Her expression was unusually serious, even angry.

“Okay, I won’t mention it again.” I yielded, but didn’t completely change the subject. “Anyway, tomorrow I’ll have the pack’s contract lawyer and my personal legal advisor come over. They’ll
