Liam was now fiercely protective of Chloe, and Natalie had also stepped forward for her. The Kelly family had no choice but to take the offered way out and dismiss the whole incident as a misunderstanding.

“I spoke with them,” Natalie told Chloe over the phone. “I said your internship is very demanding, so you’ll be staying near the company for now.”

There was a business hotel near the office used for clients. Natalie had reserved a room for

Chloe there.

Because of the Kellys’ guardianship, Chloe couldn’t fully break away from them yet.

So, taking advantage of the fact that Chloe had been wronged, Natalie pushed for a formal concession from the Kellys.

Chloe would have some freedom for a while.

“Thank you, Natalie,” Chloe said sincerely. “But you’re helping me so much. I don’t know how to repay you.”

Natalie smiled, “Don’t be so formal. Friends help each other-it’s normal. Didn’t by holding off Samuel?”

Hearing Natalie so casually refer to them as friends brought tears to Chloe’s eyes.

She said, “That was nothing really. I can’t help you much…”

“Chloe, friendships aren’t about keeping score. Caring for each other, sometimes just walking the same path and feeling good about it-that’s enough. Don’t keep thinking you’re not good enough, because I think you’re great. You’re loyal to your friends. Every time you stand up for someone, you never think of yourself first. Liam told me he’d always admired that about you, since you were kids. I feel the same way.” Natalie couldn’t help saying a bit more.

When she first met Chloe, Natalie did think she was all sharp edges, rebellious, and hard to get along with.

But over time, she realized it was just a fragile shell of protection. Chloe genuinely wanted to be good to others.

Maybe because things were better with Liam now, Chloe was growing softer, less likely to go on full defense at the slightest provocation.

After hanging up, Natalie returned to the examination room next door.

She had accompanied Leonardo for his check-up early that morning. Everything was finished

The test results had just come in. Several specialists were gathered together. Seeing Natalie return, Leonardo reached for her hand and pulled her to sit beside him.

“How is my husband doing? Is his recovery on track?” Natalie asked immediately, her primary

concern.

The doctors exchanged looks before going over the test results.

Overall, all values were normal. Most of the internal bruising had healed. He was still physically weak, with some external muscle injuries that required care to avoid further strain.

Natalie sighed in relief and turned to Leonardo. “You hear that? You still need proper rest.”

“Yes, I heard,” Leonardo said softly, pulling her close until she was almost in his lap.

Natalie asked the doctors, “But the occasional fevers-are those normal? Is the inflammation

inside still severe?”

“That… is possible.” One doctor paused, then nodded.

Natalie was about to ask more when Leonardo wrapped his arms around her and stood up. “Let’s go. I’m hungry. Time for lunch.”

“Wait a second…” Natalie had a feeling something was off, but Leonardo firmly guided her out.

Long before the appointment, Leonardo had told the doctors to only do basic tests.

Even though the specialists recommended further testing for the shadowy area on the scans, Leonardo was adamant-he insisted on waiting until Natalie had left the country.

Otherwise, given her nature, she would definitely stay by his side.

He didn’t want her to go through that with him.
