Lillian offered a helpless smile as Leonard quickly unsealed the folder.
He spread the documents open for her to see.
However, the moment Lillian's eyes scanned the first page, her eyes widened in absolute shock.
Standing next to her, Leonard casually remarked, "Dad, are you that basic? Aside from handing over shares in the Prescott family, don't you have anything more creative to offer?"
Lillian was by no means lacking in wealth; Leonard knew perfectly well just how vast her empire was.
While the Prescott family was incredibly wealthy, and these original shares were worth an astronomical fortune, at their tier of power, money was practically just a number on a page.
Mr. Prescott shot his son a sharp glare. "What do you know? This is something every core member of this family holds. Do you think this is just a stack of stock options? Just some vulgar pile of cash? Is that how little you think of me? This is my formal invitation for Lillian to join the Prescott family. It's not about the money; it's about the significance. You don't know a damn thing."
At that last sentence, Lillian snapped her head up to look at Mr. Prescott in surprise.
Predictably, the very next second, Mrs. Prescott cleared her throat loudly. "Ahem..." She shot her husband a withering side-eye.
Mr. Prescott immediately caught himself. "A slip of the tongue. Please excuse my language, Lillian."
Lillian, who had been feeling slightly overwhelmed, suddenly let out a genuine laugh at the exchange.
The brief, unpolished moment filled the room with the undeniable, comforting warmth of a true family.
She looked back down at the Share Transfer Agreement. Even though she had braced herself, seeing the sheer percentage of the transfer still left her stunned. "Mr. Prescott, isn't this... a bit too much?"
Mr. Prescott shook his head firmly. "Not at all. How is this too much? It's perfectly appropriate. Lillian, you are Leonard's partner. When we step down, you will be one of the heads of the Prescott family. If you don't hold substantial equity, how will you command respect in the boardroom? Rest assured, Mrs. Prescott and I deliberated on this carefully. This is the exact right amount."
Lillian smiled softly. This time, she didn't try to refuse. She nodded gracefully. "Thank you both for paving the way for me. I would be honored to accept."
With that, she took the pen from Leonard and signed her name with fluid, decisive strokes.
