Karma truly never missed a beat.
Back when Bella had casually thrown around that $300 million share-purchase debt to buy their mother's shares, she had been unbearably arrogant. She had flaunted her flawless relationship with Sebastian. Now, they were tearing each other apart. Sebastian was ruthless, showing zero mercy. He hadn't even given her a warning—just slapped her with a lawsuit.
Brandon couldn't hold back a bark of laughter. The sound cut abruptly through the dead silence of the dining room. It was wildly inappropriate, but he didn't care.
Bella glared at him with pure venom, and Sabrina gritted her teeth in fury.
Brandon just shrugged. "What? Is it a crime to laugh?"
Martin's face darkened. "Enough. We're a family. This isn't a joke." He frowned, struggling to recall the origins of the debt. "Bella, what is this? When did you borrow that much from Sebastian? I thought you two..."
"It was around my birthday," Martin said slowly. "Bella tried to give me the shares as a gift. I refused and gave them back to her. Then I gave her $300 million to pay off what she owed him." He turned to look at Sabrina, who knew exactly what had happened.
Martin had used his own private funds for that because Sabrina had endlessly complained about the immense pressure Bella was under from the debt. He had been generous, handing over the cash to clear it.
Sabrina's face crumpled. "Yes... you gave her the money. But then Debbie—that old hag—scammed her out of it!" She slapped her thigh dramatically and burst into tears. "Oh, my poor Bella! Why is your life so hard? You tried to do the right thing, and what do you have to show for it? Nothing but debt! Sebastian is a monster. His own mother stole the money, and now he's suing you for it!"
