Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1412

The conversation at the dinner table primarily revolved around the budding relationship between the two families and the Winthrop family's factory.

After dinner, the discussion completely shifted to the factory's production data.

Celia Bennett was an expert in this field, so she naturally took the lead when it came to talking about production.

The Mercer brothers listened from the sidelines. It was glaringly obvious that they were highly interested in the factory's operations.

The sheer speed at which Lillionix generated profits made the two brothers green with envy just thinking about it.

While the Winthrops and Celia were deep in conversation, Brandon leaned over and whispered to Lillian.

"Lillian, factories like this rake in a lot of cash right now, don't they?"

Lillian only needed to hear half a sentence to figure out what he was plotting. Still, she didn't probe, simply answering his question at face value.

"It depends. The profitable ones make a killing, but the unsuccessful ones can't even keep their doors open and bleed money heavily."

Brandon had been in business for years; surely he understood that this kind of money wasn't something just anyone could easily snatch up.

"As long as there are orders, there's money to be made, right?"

Lillian replied, "A factory that can fulfill its orders according to the contract will definitely turn a profit."

Did he really think having orders was enough? What about the hardware? The technology? Did he not consider those factors at all?

She scoffed inwardly. Thank goodness she had severed ties with the Mercer family early on; otherwise, they would be trying to leech off her success yet again.

His wishful thinking was almost amusing. Seeing the Winthrop family on the verge of partnering with Lillionix had clearly sparked his intense jealousy.

Brandon wasn't stupid. He naturally caught the underlying warning in Lillian's words.

Fulfilling orders meant doing so strictly according to the contract, which meant Lillionix wouldn't be handing out any back-door favors.

The Winthrops and Celia had a rather productive chat.

As the hour grew late, Lillian announced it was time for her to leave.

It was also about time for the two Mercer brothers to head home.

The timing worked out perfectly.

Brandon escorted Lillian to her car first. After waving goodbye and watching her vehicle disappear into the distance, he turned back to support Beatrice Winthrop, thanking her for the evening. At the same time, he took the opportunity to warn the older woman about Bella Ward.

Were they planning to slowly cannibalize her enterprise?

Did they want to turn Lillionix into a mere subsidiary of the Mercer Group?

What a vivid imagination they had.

Noticing Lillian staring blankly out the window, Ethan intentionally chimed in, "Ms. Mercer, did you pick up any interesting intel today?"

Lillian replied, "The Mercer family wants to start a factory. Seeing them get so close to the Winthrops means they'll probably start making preparations soon."

Ethan's eyes widened in surprise. He cupped his hand behind his ear as if adjusting an earpiece. "Wait, did I hear that right? They want to build a factory? Are they trying to poach our orders?"

Lillian chuckled and looked at Ethan. As expected, anyone working alongside Leonard Prescott was far from foolish, and their reflexes were incredibly sharp.

"They certainly have... quite the soaring ambitions.

But given their company's current financial disaster, can they even afford to get a factory off the ground?"

Lillian said, "The Mercer Group might be broke, but the Mercer family itself isn't."

Ethan scoffed. "No way. According to our investigations, those folks in the Mercer family have long emptied their own pockets. They're even drowning in external loans. Where are they going to pull the cash from?"
