Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1421

Three years at best, three months at worst.

Her life was rapidly accelerating toward a miserable end.

"I've signed all the authorization documents you need today. Don't come to my room tomorrow night. I'm going to hide this phone, and we'll coordinate via text.

I want to see my son tomorrow. I've already instructed the bodyguards. Unless something unexpected happens, he should be dropping by to see me."

"Debbie, if you're going to summon Mr. Blake here, I'd better stay out of sight in my own room. God forbid we bump into each other in the hallway and he recognizes me."

Debbie nodded. "Fine. But you need to hustle and get that ID sorted immediately. You can make your move the moment my son leaves the hospital."

Lucas nodded firmly. "Understood."

After securing her signature, Lucas didn't linger and quietly slipped out.

He had bought Debbie a burner phone and a new SIM card.

He trusted that a seasoned gambler like Debbie knew exactly how to be extremely cautious.

She would undoubtedly keep the phone perfectly hidden from prying eyes.

The next day, Sebastian actually arrived.

Since Debbie had been hospitalized, he hadn't visited her once after she regained consciousness. He had only been there while she was passed out.

He had absolutely no desire to see her, let alone face her while she was awake.

His revulsion for his mother had reached a sickening new peak.

The severed head of Elias Ashford, the loss of a human life, all just to transfer Debbie from the clutches of the casino mob into a hospital bed. Sebastian had drained every ounce of goodwill between the Blake family and the Ashford family, plunging them deeply into a social debt.

The vast network of favors established by Old Mr. Blake was supposed to be his inheritance. Having squandered such a monumental alliance on someone like Debbie left Sebastian feeling an intense, burning resentment. It simply wasn't worth it.

Debbie couldn't care less about what was or wasn't worth it. All she knew was that she overheard the doctors discussing sending her abroad for treatment.

Perhaps foreign medicine could drag out her miserable life for a few more years, but that meant she would be permanently confined to a sterile hospital bed, treated like a helpless lab rat.

She couldn't stomach the thought.

It truly was exhilarating. The more Sebastian despised her, the happier his visible suffering made her.

Look at him. No matter how much he hated her, he couldn't sever the tie between them.

She was his mother. How could he ever hope to shake off that brutal reality?

It was utterly impossible.

The bond between mother and son was a lifelong curse he could never scrub clean.

"What, not happy to see me? Then kill me. That way you'll never have to look at my face again. That's what you've wanted all along, isn't it?

When I fell into those thugs' hands, weren't you secretly praying I'd just die out there? That way, I wouldn't dirty your hands or remain a thorn in your side?"

Sebastian couldn't tolerate her toxic mouth for another second.

"Enough! You're sick, so I'll pretend you're just spouting delirious nonsense!

You demanded to see me. Spit it out. What exactly do you want?"
