Debbie Harris: "Discharge me. Set me free. Give me a sum of money, and I will cut ties with you forever. I'll take the money, go far away, and live out my final days in peace.
"Don't worry, once I get enough money and enjoy myself, I won't bother you anymore. You won't have to worry about my illness.
"When I'm at death's door, my money will probably run out. By then, I'll find a quiet place and end my life.
"Rest assured, I won't drag you down or cause you any trouble.
"You won't even have to collect my body. You're my good son, after all. How could I burden you with such a thing?"
Debbie repeated her assurances, seemingly trying to convince Sebastian Blake.
However, when she finished speaking, Sebastian laughed.
"To die in such obscurity, so lonely and forgotten—are you really okay with that?"
Debbie looked up at Sebastian, who stood by the hospital bed.
Sebastian scoffed. "You won't accept it. How could someone like you ever be okay with that?
"You had nothing. You stole your parents' life savings, causing your father to fall off a cliff while chasing you. He died in the hospital because you left him with no money for treatment, and that killed your mother from a broken heart.
"Then you took the cash, ran to Northwyn, forged a degree, and relied on your decent looks to land a receptionist job at the Blake Group.
"I don't even want to know how many men you slept with to claw your way into the secretary's office right outside the CEO's suite.
"Your ambition meant you were never content with being a nobody.
"Otherwise, you would have found an average guy in the company and settled down for a quiet life.
"But you set your sights on my father. You schemed and manipulated your way into his bed.
"You knew you'd never get the chance to be his official mistress, let alone a regular fling, so you had to make your one shot count. You spent a fortune to secure a pregnancy.
"Debbie, oh Debbie. In the end, fate delivered its verdict one step ahead of your ambition.
"What a shame.
"You say you want to end your life in obscurity, but I'm guessing that's just a ploy to fool me.
"Even in death, you want to make a splash. You want people to know who you are, don't you?
"Even if your identity is shameful, you're dying for the whole world to know about it, right?
"You didn't dare show your face before; you just cowered in your hometown, barely scraping by.
"But now that you have cancer, you've probably concocted a revenge plan. You want to drag me and my father down from our pedestals, tying our names to yours forever.
"You want to make sure that whenever someone mentions my father and me, they will never be able to forget you, right?"
