Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1428

Lillian knew exactly what Brandon was scheming.

What had Sebastian called it?

A semi-public birthday gala.

Open to a specific social circle, right?

Perfect.

Lillian agreed. "If Noah sends the invitation, I'll go."

Sebastian's words didn't hold enough weight. His verbal invite was merely a notification of the event as far as she was concerned.

After all, her relationship with Noah was an absolute disaster.

Since it was Noah's party, if he didn't want her there, she certainly wasn't going to show up just to make herself miserable.

The three Mercer men were visibly thrilled by her response.

Brandon smiled brightly. "Don't worry, Lillian. Noah's changed. He'll invite you. He definitely wants to spend his birthday with you."

Martin chimed in, "Lillian, we'll come pick you up, and we can all go together."

Lillian shot that down instantly. "That won't be necessary. I prefer taking my own car."

The Mercers' cars couldn't even compare to her fleet.

Martin rubbed his nose, feeling a bit awkward.

Fine, he had overstepped.

He knew she was living a life of extreme luxury now. The Mercer family honestly didn't have anything left that could impress her.

Once the Mercers finally left, Lillian turned and crouched beside Eleanor, asking her gently, "Mom, do you want to go to your grandson's birthday party?"

Eleanor paused to think. Her mental state was compromised, but she still retained a sliver of cognitive function. It couldn't compare to a healthy adult, of course.

She was more like a small child.

"I really regret it. Their framing and calculations were their problem, but I could have stood up for myself.

"I could have chosen not to go in. If I had looked at the situation rationally, I could have found plenty of ways to get justice and clear my name.

"But I let my emotions dictate my actions.

"I was the Mercer Princess, raised in a bubble of privilege. I simply couldn't accept the reality that my own family didn't love me.

"Because I lost my head, Mom and Grandma ended up like this.

"Even with Noah, I still carry a trace of guilt.

"Of course, he's worn most of that guilt away by now. I don't really care about that anymore."

Leonard reached out. "You're wonderful. You've never let anyone down.

"It's the Mercers who failed you.

"Eleanor is living a great life now. You can give her everything she needs.
