There were many moments when Sebastian seriously considered giving up on his son.
But realizing that doing so would sever his only remaining tie to Lillian held him back.
If he ever managed to reconcile with Lillian, and Noah's attitude toward her remained this awful, Sebastian would pack the boy off to a boarding school abroad without a second thought.
That rebellious brat didn't deserve a life of luxury by his side.
He needed to go out into the world, suffer a little, and grow up. Maybe then he would understand who truly deserved to be called his mother.
As his thoughts drifted with the cigarette smoke, his mind inevitably returned to the woman in the hospital.
At that moment, Lester returned, knocking on the door. Relaying Lillian's message had interrupted Sebastian's brooding, but Lester wasn't finished.
"Mr. Blake, the hospital called again. Ms. Harris said her bottom line is to stay in the country, in that exact hospital room, for her treatments.
"She claims she doesn't understand the language abroad and refuses to go. If you try to force her onto a plane, she swore she'd find a way to jump off a building or smash her head against a wall. She said she'd make sure her blood splattered all over you."
Sebastian crushed the cigarette into the ashtray, his brow furrowing deeply.
A language barrier and a refusal to leave the country. That was certainly part of the reason Debbie was resisting.
But it couldn't be the main reason.
Sebastian suddenly asked, "I told you to keep an eye on the banks. Has there been any movement on Debbie's accounts?"
"Nothing so far," Lester replied. "Mr. Blake, do you suspect the real reason she won't leave is tied to that?"
Sebastian sneered. "What else? With over a billion dollars sitting in her account, how could she bear to leave?
"I almost forgot about that. She was so desperate to stay in the country... It was all for the money."
He had been so busy that he nearly overlooked such a crucial detail.
Realizing Debbie was simply obsessing over her bank balance, a dark, predatory smile spread across his face.
"Tell her I agree," Sebastian said smoothly. "I won't send her abroad for now.
"If she likes the local hospital so much, she can take all the time she needs to recover there.
"Whenever she decides she wants to seek treatment overseas, she can let me know. I will do my utmost to accommodate her."
Lester was stunned.
"Mr. Blake, are you serious?
"You're letting her choose?"
Sebastian's eyes glinted dangerously. "Of course. She has the right to choose. Besides, I'm very much looking forward to the show."
Suddenly, it clicked in Lester's mind. The day after Debbie was admitted to the hospital, Sebastian had held a secret meeting with the Bank Manager!
