Debbie immediately fired back, her voice dripping with venom. "What kind of garbage are you spewing, you filthy slut? What money?"
Bella finally lost whatever shred of control she had left and roared, "The money! The $1.2 billion! Didn't that wire clear your account ages ago? Where is it? There isn't a single cent in here. This account is cleaner than your worthless life!"
Debbie's eyes blew wide open in sheer disbelief.
She refused to believe her own ears. Had she misheard?
How was that even possible?
Did she completely misinterpret what Bella just said?
Not a single cent left? How could that be?
Unable to stand the suspense a second longer, Lucas shoved his way forward to stare at Bella's laptop screen.
The moment his eyes locked onto the dashboard, he froze completely.
Nothing. There was absolutely nothing.
Not a single cent.
Lucas felt his heart slam violently against his ribs. When he slowly turned his head to look at Debbie, a predatory, unhinged glare ignited in his eyes.
It was the first time he had ever displayed such raw, murderous malice.
He demanded viciously, "Where is the money?"
Debbie stammered, "Are you two out of your minds? Let me see that! I don't even know what you're talking about!"
Bella abruptly shot up from her chair and shoved the laptop directly into Debbie's face.
"Didn't you just demand to know where the money went? Look at it! Look at exactly where it went!"
Then, Debbie saw it with her own eyes—her account balance was a flat, glaring zero.
She let out a piercing shriek. "Impossible! Bella, what did you do with my money?"
It wasn't impossible.
Debbie glared murderously at Lucas. "What about you? Aren't you the prime suspect? I signed over all my authorization rights to you over the last few days! I gave you full power of attorney! You worthless piece of trash, tell me right now—did you drain my account behind my back?"
Lucas scoffed loudly. "If I drained the money, would I still be standing in this hospital room? Wouldn't I have packed my bags and vanished, instead of waiting around for you two psychos to hunt me down? Do you really think I'm that stupid?"
Finally, the vicious screaming match echoing off the hospital walls grounded to a halt.
A chilling realization seemed to wash over all three of them simultaneously.
Lucas definitely didn't have it. If he did, he'd be halfway across the world by now.
Bella didn't have it either. Given her elite status, if she had secured the money, she would never have dragged herself back to this room to put on a theatrical performance.
Though $1.2 billion was a staggering fortune, considering her deep ties to the Mercer family and her marriage to Sebastian, she could likely source capital elsewhere. As a high-society heiress, she wouldn't want to dirty her hands dealing with the two of them a second longer than necessary.
As for Debbie, her relationship with Sebastian was notoriously toxic. Trapped under heavy guard, she possessed absolutely zero freedom.
