Bella Ward sighed. When it came to the lottery of birth, she hadn't beaten Lillian Mercer.
But that didn't mean she would keep losing in this life.
She wouldn't. She, Bella, absolutely refused to let herself lose forever.
She would win. She would win everything back.
By the time Lillian received the news, it was already dusk the next day.
After dinner, Leonard Prescott placed Bella's medical file in front of her.
"A medical file? Whose is it?"
Lillian looked at the folder Leonard had pushed across the table, noting the label on the cover.
"Open it," Leonard said. "You're going to want to see this."
Lillian opened it, a flicker of surprise crossing her features. "She has breast cancer? Hah..."
Was this Bella's karma?
"After she undergoes egg freezing," Leonard explained, "she plans to have an immediate mastectomy and get reconstructive implants."
"People like her don't die easily," Lillian replied. "And she would never allow herself to be defeated by an illness. Her decision doesn't surprise me at all. It's just that she was diagnosed so suddenly, yet she doesn't seem to be in critical condition."
"She was admitted to the hospital needing psychological counseling, claiming that severe stress and anxiety were causing insomnia and loss of appetite," Leonard said. "But routine tests revealed the cancer."
