Someone who can't let go of the allure of wealth and status could never just focus on building a career," Lillian continued. "Besides, like you said, even if she has genuine skills, she lacks that spark of true talent. If she could just let it all go, even dodge the loan sharks by fleeing the country, she might have carved out a path for herself. But look at how stubborn she is. Her will to live is staggering. I haven't seen anyone as relentless as her in a long time. Unfortunately, her luck is terrible. Maybe fate is balancing the scales because of the underhanded ways she operates. I suppose you could call it karma."
"If she's seeking treatment this aggressively, what about us?" Leonard asked. "Today, I had Mr. Peregrine run an assessment on me. I've recovered incredibly well recently."
In truth, Lillian should have already moved on to the second phase of her own treatment.
However, she had been constantly worried about whether Leonard's body could handle the physical toll of acting as her blood donor for the next phase. She had been ignoring Dr. Smith's reminders.
Dr. Smith ultimately answered to Leonard, so naturally, after pushing Lillian, the doctor had started factoring Leonard's condition into the equation.
Lillian looked at him, surprised. She hadn't expected that after Dr. Smith's three reminders, Leonard himself would be the one to bring it up.
She thought Dr. Smith would wait a bit longer before telling him.
It seemed the doctor was genuinely afraid of delaying her treatment.
"Mr. Peregrine saying you've recovered well isn't enough," Lillian said firmly. "Not unless we fly to Britannia together, go to Prescott Bio-Labs, and let Dr. Smith run a full battery of tests. I won't agree until we see the final results with our own eyes. My treatment can wait. I want both of us to survive this without any risks."
When it came to the will to live, hers was even stronger than Bella's.
Now, she had Leonard. She had friends, colleagues she loved working with, and her company, Lillionix.
She wanted to take Lillionix even further, and she absolutely refused to give up her life easily.
At the end of the day, if the prison administration hadn't repeatedly blocked her Compassionate Medical Parole, her condition wouldn't have deteriorated so badly. She might have been fully recovered by now.
