Leonard Prescott took Lillian's hand, gently swaying it. He squatted right in front of her, looking up at her like a devoted puppy.
"What's wrong? You already know everything about the treatment plan. Why ask this out of the blue?"
The suffocating tension in Lillian's chest finally eased.
So there wasn't a problem with the medical procedure. Thank God.
At least that was fine.
"Brandon Mercer showed up at the Winthrop estate for dinner tonight and brought up Halfridge Villas.
So, when exactly did you transfer the deed to my name? I had absolutely no idea. Don't you think you owed me a heads-up?"
Leonard leaned back slightly, realization dawning on his face. "Ah, I see. Ethan Hayes, huh? That bastard's lips are looser than a cheap zipper."
Lillian shook her head. "Don't blame him. Brandon was being obnoxious, and Ethan blurted it out in a moment of anger.
But something this massive... why didn't you say a word to me or discuss it first?"
Leonard shrugged. "The things you handle every day are massive. This is trivial. Why would we need to discuss it?
I have an absurd amount of real estate under my name, and I recently heard rumors about potential tax hikes, so I transferred a few properties to you..."
Lillian caught the keyword. "A few?"
Leonard winced. "I didn't mean to let that slip, but since we're on the subject, I had some free time recently, so I did transfer a few properties over to you."
Standing up, Leonard flashed a devastating smile. "Give me a second."
He walked over to the reinforced vault in his quarters, opened the massive steel door, and called Ethan in to help.
A few moments later, Lillian watched in stunned silence as the two men carried out towering stacks of documents in various shapes and sizes, dropping them right in front of her.
Stacked together, the pile was almost as tall as she was.
Lillian stared at the towering mountain of paperwork in disbelief. "Don't tell me these are all Title Deeds."
Leonard shook his head. "Not all of them. The ones in Sevria Bay are land deeds, not standard title certificates."
Lillian wasn't stupid. It was glaringly obvious—every single one of these represented one of Leonard's properties.
