Sebastian really hadn't wanted to come back to the estate tonight. But Arthur Pendergast had called him relentlessly, insisting that his parents were refusing to sleep until he arrived.
Left with no choice, Sebastian drove over.
With his parents still alive, he didn't want to be branded an ungrateful son.
He was already dealing with Debbie Harris constantly holding his 'lack of filial piety' over his head, a toxic dynamic born of irreconcilable differences.
But he couldn't afford to burn bridges with the Blake elders.
He needed to maintain at least some moral high ground in the public eye.
Sebastian cut the engine, walked through the front doors, and immediately saw his parents waiting for him in the living room.
The displeasure on his father's face was unmistakable.
Honestly, Sebastian hated this routine.
The moment the slightest bit of bad press hit the internet, the old man would summon him back like an errant schoolboy.
He would be forced to explain himself. Endlessly explain himself.
And it always ended with a grueling lecture.
He was a grown man. He was the CEO of the Blake Group. Being dragged home just to be scolded was utterly humiliating.
Besides, when he was a child and actually needed a father to guide him, where was this man?
Now that he was well past the age of needing discipline, the old man wanted to micromanage his life. It was no wonder Sebastian loathed coming back here.
Pausing for a moment to read the room, Sebastian finally stepped forward.
"Dad, Mom. I'm back."
Old Mr. Blake immediately checked his watch. "I tell you to come home, and you drag your feet until this hour? If you didn't want to come, you should have just said so. We wouldn't have kept the doors open for you.
