Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1540

"Sebastian, your father has a hot temper and a sharp tongue, but he really does want what's best for you," Old Mrs. Blake said gently.

"We didn't want you marrying Bella because we saw through her from the start. We knew her character was rotten.

"But what's done is done. There's no use dwelling on the past.

"Since you know what you're doing and already have a plan in motion, we won't interfere. We'll step back and let you handle it.

"It's incredibly late. Let's call it a night.

"Noah is waiting for you at home, so you should head back soon."

Old Mrs. Blake deliberately avoided suggesting that Sebastian leave Noah with them.

Noah was growing up, and he had his own strong opinions. He still harbored resentment toward his grandparents for sending him abroad, and he rarely wanted to see them anyway.

The old couple didn't try to force a relationship.

If their child and grandchild wanted to drift away, let them. Their best, most beloved son was already gone anyway.

To them, Sebastian's only purpose now was to act as the guardian of the Blake Group.

As long as he kept the empire intact, nothing else mattered.

Sebastian didn't want to waste another second in the old estate. It was pointless.

More importantly, Old Mr. Blake was impossible to please, and his hostility seemed to be growing by the day.

Sebastian was the CEO of a massive conglomerate, yet the old man showed him absolutely zero respect.

Worse, the walls of this house weren't soundproof. Whispers of these scoldings always found their way to the board of directors.

When the senior shareholders found out the old man was treating him like a reckless child, they mocked him behind his back.

Yes, he was an illegitimate son. He was never supposed to touch the 'throne' of the Blake empire. He had only secured his position through a stroke of twisted luck—because the old couple had tragically lost their legitimate heir.

He was sitting in a seat he once hadn't even dared to dream of.
