Seeing Martin's anger escalating to the point of wanting to beat or kill Lillian, and with so many guests outside, Brandon feared another family scandal would erupt, making today an even greater humiliation.
"Dad, Lillian has already made her scene. She even announced in front of everyone that she no longer objects to you and Ms. Ward. When we go back out, I'll make sure she doesn't cause any more trouble.
"You and Ms. Ward can just explain to the guests that there was a misunderstanding with Grandma, and then continue with the wedding. That should put this incident behind us.
"If we just let everyone leave now, the Mercer family will be the laughingstock of the town for the next month."
Martin knew this all too well. "After the scene she caused today, no matter how we try to fix it, the Mercer family is already a joke, a laughingstock.
"My lifelong reputation, all ruined by that wretched girl.
"I really shouldn't have had her. She's good for nothing but causing me trouble."
Following Brandon's lead, Colin also chimed in, "Dad, calm down. Think about all the people still out there."
Brandon added, "Dad, you just get ready here. I'll go outside and manage the situation."
Brandon was a man of action. He left Colin to soothe their father and went out to take control of the scene.
With the help of a capable emcee team, Brandon explained to the guests that Sabrina was feeling unwell and that the wedding would resume after a ten-minute break.
Victor put down his fork and looked at Lillian. "After all that, the wedding is still going on?"
This was exactly what Lillian had expected. "If they didn't continue, our entertainment for the day would be over."
Victor gave Lillian another thumbs-up.
Leave it to the master.
Brandon finished his announcement and hurried back to their table. Seeing that the food had been touched, he didn't get angry.
It was a small matter, a triviality.
Compared to the massive amount of shares Lillian had just handed over to him and Colin, what was a little breach of etiquette?
Brandon lowered his voice. "Lillian, you've made your scene. You wanted to see her embarrassed, and you got what you wanted.
"You've achieved your goal, right?
"So let's not cause any more trouble, okay?"
Lillian looked at her brother with cold eyes. He was just like his father, through and through.
No DNA test needed to confirm that.
Lillian put on a smile. "I've already delivered my big gift. What trouble am I causing? If there's any more drama, it won't be from me, will it?"
Brandon immediately said, "Aunt Sabrina has waited half her life for this. She cherishes this special day. Don't worry, she won't cause any trouble."
As he spoke, Lillian's gaze shifted. Martin and Sabrina were emerging again.
They were clearly ready to resume the wedding.
Lillian was more than happy to oblige.
She held up her hands and looked at Brandon. "I promise, I'll just sit right here and won't do a thing. I already tore up Grandma's agreement, and they're legally married. What can a single person like me do to stop them, right?"
Even Brandon looked a little guilty hearing this. He avoided Lillian's gaze and coughed awkwardly.
Then, Martin went on to recount the many hardships he and Sabrina had faced on their journey together and his joy at finally being able to marry her today.
And with that, the wedding continued.
People in high society weren't necessarily any less vulgar in their actions.
They were just better at draping a veil of decorum over it, pretending it was all perfectly respectable.
The guests weren't troublemakers either. Having witnessed the free drama, they weren't about to start gossiping openly.
Sabrina, holding her breath, had somehow managed to get through the ceremony.
But as she went to change out of her wedding dress, she was seething with resentment.
Bella told her, "Mom, you just focus on being the bride today. As for that bitch Lillian, I've already made my move. She'll be taught a lesson very soon.
"I expect that before this reception is even over, she'll be bankrupt and facing massive compensation claims."
Hearing this, Sabrina felt a jolt of energy. "Bella, what did you do? Can you really put that little bitch in her place?"
Bella's face was full of confidence. "Of course! The only reason she's been able to survive and thrive out here since getting out of prison is because she has financial backing. Once I cut off her money supply, let's see how arrogant she can be.
"When she comes crawling back to the Mercer family, you'll be the matriarch.
"As for Sebastian..."
