This time, Martin remained completely silent. It was painfully obvious that he did, in fact, consider them a burden.
The old Bella was a golden goose, capable of bringing massive benefits to the Mercer family.
But now?
Now, Bella was nothing more than a leech, a parasite trying to drain the Mercer accounts.
Martin had poured plenty of money into her over the years, fully funding her education and lifestyle.
But back then, the circumstances were entirely different. Sabrina had constantly assured him that Bella was exceptionally gifted, and that every dollar spent on her would yield a hundredfold return.
Those promises had taken root in Martin's mind. Bella was an investment, and investments were supposed to pay out.
For the longest time, he believed she was a zero-risk asset.
But reality had just shattered that illusion. Not only was there zero return on his investment, but now they were hinting that he needed to keep throwing money into a sinking ship?
Who in their right mind would tolerate that?
Sabrina's anxiety spiked when Martin ignored her.
Just as she opened her mouth to try again, Bella grabbed her hand, squeezing it tight.
"Mom, I want to go abroad for a while."
Sabrina blinked, thoroughly caught off guard. "What?"
Given the current crisis, why would she leave the country?
Bella's eyes were fixed ahead. "Mom, I'm going to pack my bags as soon as we get home and book the next flight out. I'm leaving today."
Sabrina was stunned. "That... isn't that a little sudden?"
Martin finally glanced over his shoulder. "Going to clear your head?"
A bitter, ugly smile twisted Bella's lips. "Let's call it that. Too much has happened lately. I have zero prospects left in this country right now. I want to try my luck somewhere else.
Didn't you say I was capable?
