Martin pondered for a moment before speaking up. "Given the current situation, laying low abroad is probably for the best."
He let out a heavy sigh. "The media will likely block the gates of the house and the company for a while. Staying cooped up inside is worse than getting out for some fresh air.
If I could drop everything here without worrying, I'd leave for a breather myself."
It was true. Bella was currently the epicenter of a massive scandal. If she were generating positive buzz for the family, he could tolerate it.
But this constant wave of negative press was toxic for the Mercer family's long-term prospects.
Martin genuinely hoped Bella would just pack up and leave.
He didn't mind throwing a little money at the problem to get her out of the country. Whether she went on vacation or pursued something else, he didn't care—as long as she stayed out of the house and out of the headlines.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Hearing this, Sabrina's heart sank.
What would they do if Bella left?
She still owed massive debts to The Blood-Debt Vultures.
And Sabrina had borrowed heavily from The Society of Sisters on Bella's behalf.
There was no way they could repay that money anytime soon.
She had promised her old friends that once Bella won the divorce settlement, everyone would be paid back in full.
But now...
That money was clearly gone.
If Bella fled, what would happen? Would those debts fall on...
Weighed down by these dark thoughts, Sabrina returned to the Mercer estate and helped Bella pack her luggage.
Bella sorted through her things meticulously, clearly intending to travel light.
Sabrina's mind was a mess. Between the looming debts and the heavy sorrow of parting, the emotional toll was immense.
This was drastically different from the last time she sent her daughter abroad. Back then, Bella was leaving to study and build a bright future.
Now... was she just running from her debts?
