Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 176

Hannah laughed. “Got it, got it. I understand now. This isn't just about what happened online, is it? Did Mr. Blake upset you in some other way? Or maybe he didn't spend enough money on you?”

Bella sighed. “I was just thinking how lucky Lillian is. She was born into the Mercer family. What she got at birth is something I couldn’t achieve in half a lifetime, even with my mother’s help.

You should have seen the way Sebastian looked at her yesterday.

I heard her company’s main focus is the low-altitude economy, and his eyes practically lit up.

I know he’s always been a bit lacking in his interest in women as individuals; it has to be compensated for by their abilities.

People are naturally drawn to the strong, I get that. But am I any less capable than Lillian? For him to look at her like that... I remember he used to only look at me that way.”

Hannah understood. “So that’s what this is about. What skills could Lillian possibly have? Brandon said her degree was just something her family paid for to give her a fancy title. She has no real talent, let alone any actual ability. Like you said, she was born into a good family, has good luck, and happened to run into Nathan, who’s willing to share all his resources with her.

Otherwise, start her own company, a tech company no less? In her dreams! Mr. Blake is probably just momentarily intrigued. Didn't he want to get into that sector before? For a man like him, giving up on a project must have left a bitter taste. Now that he sees someone else potentially succeeding in that area, he’s naturally drawn to the project, not the person. If he were really interested in Lillian, they’re still married. He would have gone running back to her by now.”

Her words made sense, and Bella’s expression finally softened.

“The person I planted in Lillian’s company is useless now. Do you have any reliable friends, classmates, or old flames you could set up?” Bella asked, looking at Hannah. She felt that if she didn’t keep a close eye on Lillian’s company, she would suffer a major loss.

Hannah threw her hands up. “Dear, I only had that one ex, and my current boyfriend is your brother, Brandon. I really don’t have anyone in that field. Besides, Lillian’s company isn’t hiring right now. When Tyler got fired, he heard they have no plans to expand. Their current staff is sufficient. Oh, and I noticed something at the wedding banquet yesterday. That group of original employees who started with Mr. Blake, the ones you fired, they were there too. I asked around, and it turns out Lillian hired all of them. They’re all working at her company now.”

“She will definitely lose everything. It’s just that right now, she seems to have the upper hand. She and Victor teamed up and caught me completely off guard. This is her moment to be smug.” Bella snorted, feeling that she had lost this round due to her own carelessness. If she had just glanced at what Tyler had sent her, she might not have become such a laughingstock. But she hadn't looked at it at all, and now she was the butt of everyone's jokes.

Hannah reassured her, “Life is full of ups and downs. No one stays on top forever. Her first half of life was easy enough. Let her have her moment now; who knows when it’ll be her turn to cry. Bella, you don’t need to be so discouraged. You still have Mr. Blake wrapped around your finger, don’t you? I think you two should focus on getting him to divorce her so you can be with him officially. Just like your mother. The most important thing is to secure your position first.”

Bella nodded. “You’re right. That should be the first step.” The thought of that group she had fired now working for Lillian made her skin crawl. To this day, many people still didn't know Sebastian was married. They knew he had a son, but Noah was rarely seen at the company, spending most of his time in the hospital or at kindergarten. But with that group back in the industry, it was only a matter of time before the news of Sebastian and Lillian’s relationship got out. She didn't want to repeat the mistakes her mother had made. Her relationship and future marriage with Sebastian had to be seen as clean and proper in the public eye. She would not allow anyone to use words like “homewrecker” in the same sentence as her name.

“Hannah, come closer. Let me tell you something...” Bella pulled Hannah in and whispered in her ear. Then she smiled slightly and asked, “Got it?”

Hannah nodded. “Don't worry, Bella. It’s a small thing. You can count on me. I’m heading back to the office now. You just wait for the good news.”
