Sebastian’s words left Bella utterly stunned. For years, he had never once brought up the topic of marriage. All her patient, quiet, and unassuming behavior had gotten her nowhere, yet a single dramatic outburst had won her the very thing she desired most. It was completely unexpected.
She never imagined Sebastian would make such a promise.
“Sebastian...” Bella was overwhelmed with emotion, so surprised that for a moment, she didn't know what to say.
Sebastian explained, “I know I should have given you a proper commitment long ago. But you know about Noah’s condition, and we might still need Lillian. I’m his father; I can’t just disregard his life.
Bella, the company will be yours one day too. I’ve already silenced all the critics. Don't worry, no one will gossip in front of you. Things at the office will go back to how they were. As for the outside world, once the project is a success, we’ll let our market share put them in their place.”
Bella knew she had won this round. Since victory was hers, there was no need to prolong the act.
“Sebastian, thank you. you’re always so considerate of me. I don’t know what I’d do without you. I’m so lucky to have you.”
Sebastian gently pulled her into his embrace. “I only did what I should have. Two years ago, and now, I’ve always been on your side, prioritizing your interests. Bella, don’t let me down, alright?”
Resting in his arms, Bella wore the blissful expression of a woman in love. This was exactly what she had wanted, and achieving it made her ecstatic.
“Sebastian, I’ll be back at the office tomorrow.”
Sebastian breathed a sigh of relief.
The project with the government couldn't be delayed. Changing leadership mid-stream would undoubtedly have consequences, and Bella was the most capable person at the company in this field.
If he had to replace her on short notice, he truly couldn't think of a more suitable candidate. Even poaching talent from outside would be difficult and costly. Experts in this area were scarce, and hiring them would come at a high price.
Cost was a factor Sebastian couldn't ignore. All things considered, Bella was still the best choice.
He suddenly found himself feeling a twinge of envy for Lillian. She had just started her business and had already managed to find a master like Victor to help her. He was sure that Lillian's company would soon be producing its own brand of phones, appliances, and more. It would be considered a successful startup. Of course, he wasn’t going to speculate on their performance just yet.
Bella agreeing to return to the company put Sebastian at ease.
The project couldn't be held up.
Now, just a few hours later, she was like a different person, as happy as if she’d won the lottery.
Brandon looked down at the documents in his hand, a little taken aback. “I just came back to grab something. Sorry, Bella, I have a meeting at the office this afternoon, so I can’t join you for lunch. You’re... feeling better?”
Bella replied, “I’m fine. See? Perfectly fine. Why wouldn't I be? Brandon, you go on and do what you need to do. I’ll ask Colin if he’s coming back for lunch.”
“He probably won’t be back today either,” Brandon said. “I asked him to help with something this morning, so he’ll likely be home for dinner tonight.”
“Okay, then I’ll wait for you both for dinner tonight.”
Brandon scratched his head, still not understanding what had happened to bring about such a good mood. But as he was leaving, he heard from the housekeeper that Sebastian had visited. Suddenly, it all clicked. Bella was upset, Sebastian came over, and now she was happy. Sebastian must have promised her something she wanted.
Driving away, Brandon thought about it. What did Bella want most? Suddenly, he realized, and his first instinct was to call Lillian. It was a major development, and he didn't want Lillian to be the last to know.
Besides, even if Sebastian and Lillian were really getting a divorce, Brandon wanted his sister to receive proper financial compensation. It would provide her with security for the future.
