Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 184

Sometimes, you just had to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

What spell had she cast on the elders?

They were as sharp as they come, having navigated the business world their entire lives. Their judgment of character was rarely wrong.

How could she possibly cast a spell on them?

It was simple: the elders were smarter than Sebastian. They saw in her the potential of a matriarch who could uphold half the sky for the Blake family.

For a powerful family dynasty to continue and thrive, the matriarch was crucial.

Looking at the major families in Northwyn, any that had endured, whether through arranged or love-based marriages, had always secured the approval of the older generation.

Those that didn't, usually fell apart.

Of course, there were exceptions, like her own family, where her father had spent half his life chasing after the woman he wanted.

And Lillian could already foresee the inevitable decline of the Mercer family.

It wouldn't last. It was doomed to wither and decay.

What kind of matriarch was Sabrina?

All she did was stir up trouble at home.

Her grandmother had also fought tooth and nail against men in the business world her entire life to protect the family's assets. Her judgment was impeccable, and she despised Sabrina for a good reason.

Lillian looked at Sebastian. He was an outsider who had returned to a world of wealth. He lacked the perspective, the knowledge, and the instincts of a true heir. He hadn't grown up immersed in it, so there were many things he just didn't understand. He couldn't see the value she brought to him.

And he even questioned the judgment of the old couple.

She gave a sarcastic smile. "You're right. The elders misjudged."

They had misjudged, not her, but him. They never should have brought him, the illegitimate son, back to inherit the family business.

Sebastian didn't say more. "Clear your schedule. I can take Noah abroad anytime."

With so many capable people at the company, Sebastian could easily take a few days off for personal matters without causing any major issues.

"In that case, let's leave after work on Friday," Lillian said. "It should take about three days. If Noah needs..."

She was still Noah's mother. If they were traveling together, she was willing to fulfill her maternal duties and take care of him.

Even after her divorce from Sebastian, she still had an obligation to Noah.

But before she could finish, Sebastian cut her off. "If it's the weekend, I'll bring Bella to look after Noah. Don't be upset. Noah is used to having her around, and I feel at ease when Bella is taking care of him."

Lillian had no objections. If some other woman wanted to take care of the son who didn't want her, it would save her the trouble.

"Fine," Lillian agreed instantly.

Let her take care of him. It made things easier.

After Sebastian finished, he still hadn't gotten out of the car. Lillian grew impatient. "Could you please get out? I need to get home for dinner."

Sebastian didn't linger. They had agreed on a time, and there was nothing more to say.

Her positive reinforcement was exactly what Sebastian wanted to hear.

With the trip confirmed on Lillian's end, she went home and told Leonard.

Leonard was going with her; it was time for his check-up too.

"It's good that the time is set," Leonard said. "If you're not planning on being with Noah, you can take my private jet.

Given your health, I'm not comfortable with you flying with them."

The more Leonard learned about Sebastian, the more he saw his coldness.

He didn't know Lillian was sick yet. If something happened to her on the plane, Sebastian wouldn't necessarily take care of her.

With that in mind, Leonard didn't want Lillian to travel with Sebastian just for the sake of her son.

Lillian sighed. "Even if I wanted to, Sebastian wouldn't let me. He's bringing Bella to look after Noah.

I was already dreading the awkwardness of traveling together.

Since you have a private jet, I'll take you up on that offer. I could use the rest."

Leonard was surprised. "Sebastian is bringing Bella for something like this?"

"Sebastian is probably planning to divorce me," Lillian said. "They must be getting serious."

Leonard's heart skipped a beat. Lillian still didn't know that she and Sebastian were already divorced.
