Kick Bella and Sabrina Ward out of the Mercer family?
The thought had never even crossed Colin's mind.
How was that even possible?
His words came out as, “Lillian, don’t be so childish. How could you possibly earn more money than Bella, let alone many times more? This is business, not a child's game.”
Lillian took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
“Forget it. Even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. Since you’re all one happy family, you can live together. I got used to prison; I can’t sleep in that house anyway.”
The Mercer estate was in an old, exclusive neighborhood where it was difficult to hail a cab.
She would have to walk a fair distance to a main road.
Colin followed behind her. “Lillian, if you don’t want to live at home and you don’t want to go back to the Blake estate, how about I buy you a house?”
Lillian replied, “No, thank you. I travel light. I don't need any property; I have no one to inherit it after I die anyway.”
Colin suddenly stopped in his tracks.
What did she mean, no one to inherit it after she died?
“Lillian... Lillian...”
While Colin was lost in thought, Lillian had already managed to flag down a cab. She got in and left him behind.
—
After Sebastian got home, he went straight to his study on the second floor.
After searching for a bit, he called for the housekeeper.
“Linda, where did you put the things Lillian sent from prison?”
Linda asked, “Sir, why are you suddenly looking for these? Miss Ward told me to throw out anything useless, but luckily I saved them.”
With that, Linda went to the staff quarters downstairs and returned with a foldable storage box, placing it in front of Sebastian.
“Sir, it's all in here.”
Sebastian immediately opened it and started rummaging through the contents.
There were about eighty or a hundred envelopes in total.
Sebastian’s eyes landed on one with a law firm's official stamp. He tore it open and found exactly what he expected: a divorce agreement.
He frowned deeply.
So Lillian had been telling the truth. She really wanted to divorce him.
However, after reading the terms—she was leaving with nothing—the knot of tension that had unconsciously formed in his chest loosened.
She didn't want anything?
It seemed she was just acting out of anger.
The Blake Group today, while partly his inheritance, was also built on the foundation they had created together during their startup phase.
Lillian owned fifty percent of that portion.
Lillian read the contents and let out a derisive laugh. “They really think they can force me into submission this way? This is my family. I'm sorry you have to witness this pathetic display.”
Nathan explained, “The Blake and Mercer families have issued a joint statement, telling all companies not to hire you. With their influence growing so rapidly, most people will do them this small favor.”
Lillian asked, “They know I'm here with you. Didn't they offer you some kind of incentive to help them with this?”
Nathan took out his phone and showed Lillian a private message from the Mercer family.
“The Mercers are being quite generous. This is probably their most profitable project right now, yet they’re willing to share it as a collaboration.”
Lillian saw right through it. “That’s not generosity; that’s bait. Are they giving you a benefit? No, they’re giving you a taste to lure you in. Once you’re on their side, you’re part of their camp.
And then, your resources become their resources.”
Nathan said, “Li, actually, sharing our resources with your family should be a given.
But, of course, it all depends on what you want.”
Lillian looked at him. “Is that what you think?”
Nathan replied, “Of course not. If they’re bullying you, forget sharing resources. I’ll back you up and teach them a lesson for you.”
Only then did Lillian smile. That was more like it.
“Li, there’s an industry summit reception tonight. Since you’re planning on getting back into the field, why don't you come with me? It'll be full of industry elites; you could gather a lot of useful information.”
Lillian was about to refuse, but Nathan’s last sentence changed her mind.
“In what capacity would I be going?”
