"Unbelievable," Ethan muttered to himself. "Not even basic human decency."
He not only cursed under his breath but also snapped a photo and sent it to Leonard.
Leonard was at home catching up on sleep when his phone buzzed. He groggily picked it up, and the sight of the message woke him up instantly.
Sebastian had already left the lab. Perfect. He could go pick her up.
Sebastian didn't know how to cherish her, but he did. And one day, Sebastian would regret it.
He couldn't tell treasure from trash now, but when Lillian was standing at the top, Sebastian would understand.
He just didn't realize her true worth yet. When he finally did, his world would come crashing down.
At that thought, Leonard cheerfully got out of bed and started to get ready.
He might be sick, but he was still a handsome man. With a little effort, he could look better than most.
He knew Lillian's tests would take a while longer, so after getting ready, he hurried out the door.
After a short break in the rest area, Lillian continued with the rest of her examination.
The doctors and nurses there were very attentive. Ethan, being a man, couldn't accompany her inside.
But Leonard had arranged for a female doctor to be with her the entire time.
By the time Lillian's tests were finished, another hour had passed.
Leonard had arrived and was now listening to Ethan's rant.
"That Sebastian, he doesn't deserve Ms. Mercer. What a piece of work. No matter what, Ms. Mercer is here for their child, right?
They came for tests together, but he finishes, takes his mistress, and just leaves. Not a single word of concern.
Even a stranger, if they were here for the same purpose, would at least ask how the other person is doing.
And when he came out, Ms. Mercer was still in there. He didn't even bother to ask what kind of tests she was having, if they were serious, or if they would affect her health."
Leonard listened until he was finished, then finally spoke. "Alright, enough complaining. The way you keep saying 'Ms. Mercer,' I'm starting to think you've switched employers. I've made all the arrangements for your Ms. Mercer. She's in no danger. If she's tired, there's even a private rest area for her. So, just save your breath."
"But you were the one who assigned me to Ms. Mercer's side," Ethan retorted. "I'm just doing my best for you, with utmost devotion."
Leonard rolled his eyes. Ethan was a good man, but he talked too much.
Lillian was not surprised that Sebastian had left with her son.
So be it. Even if he had stayed, he probably wouldn't have shown any concern.
In fact, if he saw her in this state, he might have become suspicious.
Lillian couldn't be bothered to explain why a simple check-up had left her looking so worn out.
There was no point in saying more.
Leonard helped her into the car and drove straight back to the villa.
As soon as they arrived, Leonard had the maids help Lillian to her room.
The kitchen had already prepared a nutritious meal, which was brought to her bedside. But she had no appetite. She managed a few bites before succumbing to her exhaustion and falling asleep.
Her phone buzzed with calls and messages, but none of them woke her.
Sebastian, unfamiliar with the lab, wanted to ask Lillian about the situation. But his calls went unanswered, and his texts received no reply.
He frowned. Lillian had taken him off her blocklist for the sake of their son's treatment, but what was the difference? The result was the same. No response.
