Ethan didn’t dare to sleep. He had another person with him watching over Lillian, ready to wake the doctor at the slightest sign of an adverse reaction. This was a direct order from Leonard before they left.
Lillian was well cared for, completely unaware that she had a dedicated watch while she slept. When she woke up, a specially prepared meal was already waiting for her.
“Ms. Mercer, this was made just for you,” Ethan explained. “Your nutritional plan has been adjusted because of the recent treatment.”
The doctor added his two cents. “This one meal probably costs as much as a decent used car. It’s fortified with a nutritional supplement the lab developed for Mr. Prescott to speed up recovery. Try to eat as much as you can. You wouldn’t want to waste half a car.”
“It’s not like the boss is worried about the money,” Ethan retorted. “Don’t make such a big deal out of it, old man.”
Lillian looked at Ethan, surprised. She never would have imagined that a single meal for her could be so expensive.
A nutritional meal. Fine, she would eat it. Although the treatment had suppressed her appetite, she knew that eating more and maintaining a balanced diet was crucial for her recovery.
And if she could recover quickly, perhaps Leonard’s condition would improve as well.
With that thought, Lillian began to eat with determination.
Emma looked helpless. “I’ve tried to make him leave, but he just won’t go. There’s nothing I can do. I’ve called security, but he has his own bodyguards. We can’t physically remove him. I... I’m at a loss.”
Emma looked like she was about to cry from frustration. Ms. Mercer had trusted her to manage the company in her absence. But now, members of the Mercer family were showing up daily, camping outside and occasionally causing a scene. Emma was truly out of her depth.
“How about we hire our own bodyguards?” Victor suggested. “It’s just a matter of money, and Ms. Mercer isn’t short on cash. We can get reimbursed later.”
“But I can’t reach Ms. Mercer,” Emma argued. “Even if we were to act first and ask for forgiveness later, we should at least have some kind of tacit approval, right? What if a fight breaks out?”
