Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 212

Seeing the maid's silence, Sabrina was left to her own speculation.

She had been living in the Mercer household for over two years now and was familiar with its inner workings.

In both family and company matters, Brandon almost always followed Martin's lead.

Although Brandon was the heir to the Mercer family and the successor to the company, Martin was still relatively young and not yet at retirement age. Thus, Martin still presided over all major corporate decisions.

While Brandon was more than capable of handling things on his own, as long as Martin remained Chairman of the board, Brandon was merely the CEO.

Father and son had always had a tacit understanding on this front.

They rarely had any conflicts.

The more she thought about it, the more convinced Sabrina became that Lillian must have been the one to stir up trouble.

She knew that Brandon had recently been planning to bring Lillian and her startup company back into the Mercer Group.

Sabrina had no objections to this.

Bella had told her that if Lillian accepted the proposal and returned to the Mercer Group, it would be beneficial for the corporation.

Lillian herself was incompetent. In the end, Brandon would be the one calling all the shots.

Given enough time, they could even push Lillian out completely, allowing a capable person like Victor to be retained for the Mercer Group's benefit.

This would undoubtedly be advantageous for the shares they held.

So, Sabrina stayed out of it and didn't object.

With this suspicion in mind, Sabrina didn't dwell on it too much.

Meanwhile, Brandon had checked directly into a hotel. By the time he arrived, Colin was already there.

"Brandon, a hotel is no substitute for home. Why don't I move in here with you? If you need anything, I'll be here to help."

"Don't be ridiculous," Brandon said. "Why would you move out? I moved out to make a statement to Dad, to make him see that I'm the one who can carry on his legacy.

Even if he has a late-in-life child, does he really have time at his age to groom a successor?

If you move out, it signals a complete break between us and him. Besides, I need you to stay home and keep an eye on things. If we're both out, how will we know what's happening at the house?"

"What if we can't get the shares back? Think about it. Sabrina and Dad are newlyweds, and you know how he gets when he's head over heels. He's spent half his life waiting to be with Sabrina legitimately.

They're still in their honeymoon phase, and he's already throwing shares at her. I don't think he has any intention of asking for them back.

If he doesn't, we know what the consequences will be.

The shares Sabrina and Bella hold are nearly equivalent to what you and I have combined.

If they don't return them, and then a new little brother or sister comes along, Dad will definitely carve out a portion of his own shares for the new child. He might even reward Sabrina with more.

Eventually, the three of them could hold significantly more shares than the two of us. What happens then? Dad is getting older.

If something happens to him, they could stage a takeover, and we'd lose control. This isn't just fear-mongering."

Brandon's brow was tightly furrowed. "You think I don't know that? But what can we do now? Tell me."

Colin leaned in. "Mom. When Mom and Dad divorced, besides the shares that were already in her name, she got half of his assets, remember?"

At the mention of this, Brandon's expression instantly brightened.
