Lillian raised an eyebrow. “Who is he that even you can’t handle him?”
Nathan gave a sheepish smile. “You’ve never heard the name Leonard before?”
Lillian waved for the assistants to take the clothes away. “Never,” she said casually.
Nathan prompted, “So, how many owners does Litech NaLabs have?”
Lillian replied, “If nothing’s changed since I was... away, there should be three.”
“And besides you and me, who’s the third?” Nathan asked.
It dawned on her. “Leonard?”
Nathan snapped his fingers in front of her. “Bingo. You and I provided the tech, he provided the cash. You know, you two actually have something in common. You both focus entirely on your own things. The company’s been around for years, and yet...”
Before Nathan could finish, Lillian cut in.
“Is he sick?”
Nathan hesitated. “Hey, you probably shouldn’t talk about the big boss like that.”
“Forget it, it’s nothing,” Lillian said. From Nathan's reaction, he probably didn't know anything.
That evening, at the event, Lillian saw Leonard again. In the two-story banquet hall, he stood on the upper level, swirling a glass of wine in one of those hands you could never forget. When Lillian entered with Nathan, she saw him immediately and couldn't help but stare at the glass. Was it just water in there?
From his vantage point, Leonard’s eyes lit up when he saw Lillian and Nathan appear together. This woman was full of surprises. She had all that money in the bank, yet she dressed like an ordinary office worker and walked beside Nathan like an old friend.
Suddenly, a possibility sparked in Leonard's mind.
“Check the payment records. Find out where Litech NaLabs’ annual dividends for ‘Li’ have been going.”
An assistant behind him nodded and slipped away.
Leonard didn't come downstairs. The party below was in full swing. Sebastian, Bella, Brandon, and nearly every major CEO and industry talent who had pivoted to AI in recent years were there. When Nathan appeared, the mingling crowd naturally gravitated towards him, forming a circle with him at the center.
In this room, Brandon had no idea just how strong her own backbone was.
Nathan, hearing a mention of autonomous driving, thought Lillian would be interested. He turned to find her gone. As he looked around, Bella asked, “Mr. Cole, are you looking for someone?”
“My assistant,” Nathan replied. Just then, he spotted Lillian and walked over to her.
Brandon could only watch as Nathan took Lillian by the sleeve and led her into the center of the group.
His eyes shot to Sebastian. As expected, Sebastian’s face was grim. Nathan and Lillian looked far too close. Regardless of the state of their marriage, no man would be happy seeing that.
Sebastian, naturally, was stunned. Lillian was trying to divorce him, yet here she was, cozying up to Nathan, the new titan of the tech world. What was she thinking? Did she, a divorced woman with a child, actually think she could climb that high up the social ladder?
Upstairs, Leonard gently swirled his glass, raised it to his nose to inhale the aroma, but never took a sip. Watching the scene unfold below, a smile of keen interest spread across his face.
This drama was getting good.
