"She really doesn't hold a grudge, does she?
Still, Bella, you should probably double-check this.
Could there be some kind of scheme behind it all?
I can't shake the feeling that Lillian isn't this benevolent. Why would she give up the shares so easily, especially to us?
Shouldn't she have sold them to anyone but us?"
"Yes, I find it strange too," Bella admitted. "But it's true that Brandon was desperate for a loan, and it's true that he wanted those shares to become the majority shareholder. Maybe Lillian really is just short on cash. The shares originally belonged to Eleanor Lancaster, but she's lost her mind, right? That money is useless to her. Lillian probably saw this as a chance to get her hands on it for something else."
Bella continued, "I heard Lillian hasn't been to her company in a while. It's probably on the verge of collapse. She bought a factory and was supposedly renovating it—all of that costs a fortune.
Nathan has been busy lately, so he probably hasn't had time to see her. With that kind of affair, a little time apart and the man finds a new favorite.
Besides, Lillian has been married and has a child. The relationship was never respectable to begin with. I
t's probably over, and with no one injecting fresh capital into her company, it's likely going under."
Sabrina couldn't help but laugh. "Hahaha... going under? That would be wonderful. It's been a while since she made a fool of herself.
Now, Martin has a precious new baby on the way and a troublemaker for a son. Even if your father is a fool, he knows which one to choose.
By the way, about those shares, I have an idea. I guarantee it will make your father dote on you like you're his own flesh and blood."

While the mother and daughter were celebrating their victory, Lillian rose and stood by the window, watching the black sedan drive out of Halfridge Villas.
She imagined Sabrina and Bella looking at the contract, feeling genuinely happy.
Yes, they certainly would be.
Soft music began to play from behind her. Since her release from prison, she had dealt with all the shares—hers, her grandmother's, and her mother's. Those who were owed them got them, and those who desperately wanted them got them too.
And that was just fine.
