Martin paused, as if just remembering. "No, of course not. Bella, I'm very open-minded. When it comes to marriage, I have some experience. Forcing two incompatible people together is a lifetime of torture, with no happiness to be found.
"It's better to follow your heart and choose again than to be trapped in a miserable union.
"Love and marriage… you can only be happy if you find the right person."
As he spoke, he put his arm around Sabrina, gesturing that the two of them were a perfect match.
Bella nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Mercer. I was afraid you'd be upset with me. It's not that I wanted to steal Lillian's husband.
"But love is something that you and Mom understand well.
"Sebastian and I are inseparable now, and we've found a cure for Noah.
"In the future, Sebastian and I will find a way to make it up to Lillian."
"Bella, you're a good kid," Martin said. "I trust you to handle things with discretion. And as for Sebastian, he's young and has a bright future ahead of him. I have confidence in him."
Bella secretly glanced at her mother. Martin was completely wrapped around her finger.
Perfect.
"Mr. Mercer, Mom, it's getting late, and I have to go to the office tomorrow. I'll head upstairs now."
After Bella left, Martin worriedly helped Sabrina to a seat.
"Honey, you're pregnant. Please don't go out by yourself from now on. If you need to go anywhere, let me come with you, okay?"
Sabrina, of course, was not pleased. She needed her own space. If Martin was with her every day, what could she possibly get done? To her, it wasn't concern; it was surveillance.
"It's not that serious. I'm just pregnant. Don't worry, I have experience. I promise to take care of myself and give you a beautiful, healthy baby."
"I love the idea of a child, but I care about you more," Martin insisted. "Honey, just listen to me, please?"
Sabrina sighed and reluctantly agreed. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Only then did Martin relax.
Sabrina, however, keenly noticed that the house felt even emptier. It seemed Colin had also moved out.
"Martin, have the boys not come home? Are they that against us having another child?"
Her words were music to Martin's ears. His wife was willing to put in the effort for their family because she loved him.
However, his main concern was the baby in Sabrina's belly. Everything else was secondary.
"Your top priority right now is to have a safe pregnancy and deliver the baby.
"As for those two who won't come home, let them be for now.
"I appreciate your thoughtfulness. You can try talking to them later."
"How can I do that? The longer this goes on, the more distant the family will become. It's not good to have rifts.
"Besides, this baby will be their little brother or sister. The sooner they come home, the sooner they can bond with the baby when it's born. Wouldn't that be wonderful?"
Brandon and Colin had no idea that Sabrina was acting as if nothing had happened, not mentioning a word about the shares to Martin. Instead, she was talking about having them bond with her baby. Her words were utter nonsense, meant to deceive.
Martin still had no clue that Eleanor Lancaster's shares now belonged to Bella.
His own stepdaughter was now the largest shareholder in the family.
