Since Sebastian held some shares in the hospital, the door to Leonard’s special suite was knocked on the next morning.
The knock was light and gentle.
It was a stark contrast to the night before, when Martin and his group had tiptoed past the door.
After a night in the hospital, Lillian was feeling much better. She was eating a nutritious meal prepared by Leonard’s personal nutrition team.
It had to be said, Leonard truly knew how to live well.
Even as a patient, he had a custom-built suite, investing heavily in the best medical resources. When it came to his health, he spared no expense, employing a top-tier team of nutritionists to meticulously plan his three daily meals.
Lillian, on the other hand, was also a patient. But she stayed in a hotel, took pills for the pain, ordered takeout when she was hungry, and had no one to look after her.
Leonard was in the middle of lecturing her. “You can’t take the money in your bank account with you when you die. Can’t you live a little more like the heiress you are?
You can afford maids and bodyguards, right?
A maid could at least ensure you’re well-fed.
If you had a few bodyguards with you, do you think anyone from the Mercer or Blake families would dare to act so brazenly in front of you?
Of course, they do have sharp tongues. For that, I suggest you pay me a small fee to do the insulting for you.”
He was about to say more when the knock on the door interrupted him.
Lillian asked, “Aren’t you going to get that?”
“My assistant in the adjacent suite will handle it.”
Just as Martin was about to knock again, Leonard’s assistant, Ethan Hayes, appeared with two bodyguards in black suits and earpieces.
They hadn’t even noticed where the men had come from.
The two bodyguards stepped forward to block their path as Ethan asked, “May I help you?”
Brandon said, “We arrived late last night and we’re very sorry if we disturbed the distinguished guest inside. We’ve come specially to apologize.”
Ethan replied, “I’m sorry, but my boss did not rest well last night and is not seeing any visitors.”
Brandon and Martin exchanged a look. The person inside had quite the attitude.
The Blake family, which Sebastian now led, was an established and powerful family. He even held shares in the hospital. Not even the Blake family patriarch, long since retired, would put on such airs.
Martin had navigated the business world for half his life; he was as shrewd as they come. Just from this display, he knew the person inside was not to be trifled with.
He quickly said, “Then we won’t disturb you any longer. Please convey our apologies for us.”
Ethan gave a slight nod without another word.
Not daring to linger, Martin quickly led Brandon away.
Following protocol, Ethan knocked lightly three times before entering the room himself.
“Sir, they’ve been sent away.”
Leonard glanced at Lillian. “Are the Mercers always this polite and courteous?”
The Mercer family's sycophantic nature was on full display for Leonard to see, but Lillian's expression remained calm. “Sorry you had to see that joke.”
Martin returned, dejected, after failing to even get through the door to meet the mysterious VVIP.
Sebastian said nothing, simply waiting for Bella to finish packing so they could leave together.
Bella said she would go back to the office with him.
The company project was important, so Sebastian naturally waited.
Brandon said, “I’ll find out who that VVIP in the other room is.”
Sebastian interjected, “Let me handle it.”
He was worried that if Brandon started snooping around, he might alert the person and leave a bad impression. It was better to be cautious.
Martin Mercer agreed. “Yes, it would be more appropriate for Sebastian to handle this.”
Bella announced, “I’m all packed. We can go.”
Sebastian took her bag from her hand and nodded. “Let’s go.”
They had arrived in a flurry, but on their way out, the group walked on tiptoes.
As they were leaving, the blue door happened to open. They saw a group of black-suited bodyguards and assistants surrounding an elderly man with white hair and a walking stick as he came out of the room.
Brandon whispered, “Look, isn’t that the tycoon from Sevria Bay we see in the news, old Mr. Montrose?”
Martin gasped. “So that’s the magnate who was staying in this room!”
Sebastian remarked, “I see. No need to investigate, then.”
