Bella replied, “I could have created trouble with the projects to inflict serious economic damage on the Mercer Group.
But don’t we hold the most shares in the group now?
If I did that, we’d just be wasting our own money.
If the company is at a loss when the end-of-year dividends come around, how will we cover the losses on the shares we spent so much to acquire?
Mom, it’s not that I haven’t thought about it, but we can’t shoot ourselves in the foot.
It's a self-destructive move we can't afford.
I think the only way is to target the new project Brandon is trying to set up. If I cut off his new project, maybe he’ll come begging me for help.”
Sabrina nodded. “I don’t understand the details of your work, so you can handle it. Just do whatever it takes to make the Mercer family see your value again.
Get them all on your side and push for your marriage to Sebastian as soon as possible.
Lillian is probably acting so arrogant and reckless because Sebastian still cares about her even after the divorce.
Once you and Sebastian are married, what status will she have left?”
Bella said, “Enough talk, Mom. I’m going to be late for work. I have to go.”
Sabrina said urgently, “But you haven’t had breakfast! Should I pack something for you to take?”
Bella replied, “No thanks, I’m too angry to eat.
If I get hungry, I can have someone at the office order me some food. You don’t need to worry.”
With that, Bella gathered her things and went downstairs.
Just as she stepped outside, a Rolls-Royce pulled up and stopped in front of the Mercer mansion.
It blocked her own car from getting out.
She didn’t recognize the car. It was a custom limited edition, even more expensive than Sebastian’s.
As she wondered whose it was, she saw Lillian walk out with a bag and head straight for the vehicle.
As Lillian passed her, she smiled faintly. “My ride to the office is here. Need a lift, Miss Ward?”
Bella gritted her teeth in jealousy and muttered, “No, thanks.”
She remembered Lillian owned an incredibly expensive supercar. It seemed she had stopped driving herself after getting sick.
A driver in white gloves had already gotten out of the Rolls-Royce to open the door for Lillian. He politely held the door and placed a hand over the frame.
Lillian gave her a taunting smile, said nothing more, and got into the car.
It was the fact that she said nothing at all that made it feel like the deepest insult.
Bella tried her best to swallow her anger, thinking she would just have Sebastian pick her up from work personally later.
She didn’t want to drive the Mercers’ old car anyway.
Just as Lillian’s car left, Brandon pulled out in his.
“Bella, you didn’t drive? Did a driver come to pick you up?”
Usually, whenever Bella said she was tired, Sebastian would send his own driver to get her.
Brandon was used to it.
I’ll be fine, but I’m worried about this baby in my belly suffering.
At my age, I’m afraid I won’t be able to take good care of this child.”
Martin became anxious. “Honey, don’t worry. If Lillian really said those things, I will have a serious talk with her.
You’re pregnant, and you’re the lady of this house now. Even if she doesn’t like you, she can’t be so disrespectful.
Disrespecting you is disrespecting me. Rest assured, when she gets back tonight, I will question her sternly.”
Sabrina said, “Don’t, Martin. The girl is sick right now. Even if she said something inappropriate, I can just let it go. It’s okay, really, I’m fine.
Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself and won’t hold it against her.
If we’re going to address it, let’s wait until she’s better. What do you think?”
Martin sighed. “Honey, you’re being put in a difficult position. You know, this is also what the Blake family wants. Our family still relies on them for many things, and this is to pave the way for our child’s future.
I will talk to Lillian and try to reason with her. You just take care of yourself, and please don’t get into an argument with her.”
With a look of dignified endurance, Sabrina nodded. “I’m her elder. How could I get angry with her? Don’t worry, Martin. You can go to work with peace of mind.”
Martin instructed the household doctor, nurse, and maids to take good care of Sabrina before finally leaving for work.
Lillian couldn’t care less about any of this. After getting into the car, Ethan asked her how she was finding living at home.
If she was uncomfortable, she could return to Halfridge Villas at any time.
But Lillian wasn’t done having her fun yet.
